Sort of. If you enable wifi calling on your iPhone AND the iPad has a data connection you can make or take a call that would normally take place on your phone. Same with texting.
Also like someone else mentioned, if you have a data connection you can use google voice exactly like a phone.

It's okay for reading some documents provided you have good eyesight. I actually prefer this over its heavier cousins; that being said, this one is no good for drawing and note taking. The surface is just too small. For those I prefer 12 inch pro.

Primary use for me is travel....it's so easy to pack or carry and much easier to use in smaller spaces (eg airline seats)....plus it's lighter when using at home.

My quarrel is that this isn't included in the Back to School promotion. This is essentially an iPad Air with a smaller display. If Air is included in the promotion, so should this.
