This is a great deal if you can find it for that price.

However, the last several years I have moved from using dedicated landscaping fabric to silt fence material due to the increased durability. In some places, silt fence fabric is also marketed as landscaping fabric, but most times it's never located in the landscaping dept. at home improvement stores, but rather over in the construction/building materials area.

The silt fence material is essentially black heavy duty tarp fabric on a roll. It still allows water through it but is much heavier material than most dedicated landscape fabrics. Every time I've used landscape fabric it typically rots away after a few years but I've been able to dig up the silt fence fabric and use it over and over.

I dug up a flower bed in front of my house last year that had been there for 5-6 years. I used both silt fence and landscape fabric in that bed, and while all the landscape fabric would just tear like paper, I was able to salvage all of the silt fence and re-use it elsewhere.

Might be something worth looking into if you're planning on a "one and done" kind of project. It's obviously going to cost more than this deal for example, but I just wanted to pass this info along.

I've read it's better to use a pre-emergent chemical on the mulch rather than landscape fabric. The reasoning is so the mulch can feed the plants as it deteriorates. Anyone with more experience care to share their thoughts?

Might work when planting flowers. I wouldn't do it when planting vegetables.

Use silt fence instead of this cheap crap. It's the labor that counts. Silt will last a decade minimum

Mostly $18 around KC. Some stores have it for $15. But our stores carry this all year round.
