Just picked up a 86un8570aud from Sam's Club for $999.91 ($1,165 / tax + 4 year warranty). This is the 2020 model of their LED TV. This is not a videophile TV but based on the human reviews around the internet this is a "omg let's watch TV on my entire wall this is amazing" type TV at an incredibly reasonable price with positive reviews of other 2020 LGs at similar size ranges. Note that because it's under $1,000, the Sam's club 4 year extended warranty is $100.

Product Number: 980269220

Price comparisons:Notable features: 4K UHD, HDR, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, 120htz, 86'', Magic Remote, WebOS smart TV UI

Notable lacking: localized dimming, HDR+ (though Dolby Vision is comparable it seems), has IPS panel (personally I prefer these for wide viewing angle but I know it's not supposed to be as nice)

Transport note
Bring a friend, ratchets and a truck. This thing hangs off the end of the flat carts they have! Also in transport, was able to lay it down successfully. Added a photo of it standing up, 3 minutes later it tipped over (its fine). If you don't want to lay it down, consider the instructions in the box tell you to lift it up and lay it over the edge of a table face down so that you can apply the base legs (optional).

Technical reviews / full specsQA Note: Sam's Club website to find store locations http://www.samsclub.com

I called around So Cal and Arizona and found 2 verified available at the Fountain Valley, CA location right now at 1:02pm.

Unfortunately for me I can't get there in time with a vehicle big enough so I thought I'd share the info here. So bummed. Hopefully a fellow SD member can go grab one of them! The manager confirmed $999. Go get it
Fountain Valley?! not to far from me. call anywhere else?

According to RTINGs it's not edge lit (neither is mine) it's direct lit but it's not full array which means we get bad light bleed (which it does). Still better than edge lit though.

As an FYI. It's only noticeable on dark screens
Even with direct lit backlighting this TV still has poor black uniformity because it uses an IPS panel. Picture courtesy of Rtings

That's the reason it's $1000 for 86'. At least better & cost effective than projector

As someone who had this television the only thing I'd caution people it doesn't get real bright it doesn't have full area local dimming and it is edge lit but that was my biggest problem with it

If you guys are talking about clouding/flashlighting then local dimming doesn't always help with that. The bigger the TV, the more you see inconsistencies in the screen/back lighting. Seems like cheaper brand's TVs like Vizio and TCL have it a lot more often than say a comparable TV from Samsung or Sony (especially in the larger sizes like 65" & up). I had a 65" Vizio with full array local dimming with really dirty backlighting but the one it replaced was perfect but that one died after a few days. You have to be willing sometimes to make a few exchanges before you get a good one (I was SOL in that case because it was a clearance deal and couldn't find another). Sounds like the biggest gripe you guys may have with your TVs is that they have an IPS screen (poor contrast) and will look like garbage in a dark room (VA panel TVs excel in those conditions).

The 85" Hisense H6510G was selling for $1000 and has way better black uniformity because it has a VA panel. Therefore, the reason why this 86" TV has poor black uniformity is because of its IPS panel. Picture courtesy of Rtings.

My local Sam's Club has a display model. Is it worth considering? Those display models have a LOT of hours on them, but if you get the warranty, might still be worth it.

I had them check nearby stores and only FV had 4 in the system but the Mgr wanted to check physically after her meeting. She called me back 30 mins later and said 2 were already sold and 2 remained.

My wife is there now - she sees it. It shows 1599 at store still. Fingers crossed 🤞🏽
