Ordered the X Tour last night over the CrossClimate2 since I dont ride on the snow and friend who used to work at costco tire center recommended me the X Tour based on my usage.
if it's snowing, i doubt i'm driving much. (maybe a couple of miles to my grocery store.)
i'm more worried about rain.
Tested emergency stopping with my current tires (Michelin Premier a/s which is no longer stocked at costco) in moderate rain on an empty 3 lane street at 30mph.
Stopped like it was dry pavement.
no slipping sliding.
Can the Defender/X tour/CrossClimate do that?
FWIW, they gave me a whole packet of stuff and mentioned the Michelin warranty.
So I'm looking at the Michelin Primacy Tour A/S vs. Cross Climate 2. That's some funky tread on the Cross Climate 2 and not enough Tire Rack miles tested for me to be completely comfortable taking a chance on that tire, unless I see more positive reviews pretty quickly.
So I would be grateful if you post back here again after you have driven yours enough to form some opinions about them. :-)
Thanks!
I had Pilot Exalto tires on my Mazdas for years and loved them. Then I moved to Pilot Sport AS tires when they dropped the Exaltos and I love the Pilots as well. For me the improvement in handling, braking, etc., is worth the drop in mpg (about 2.0 mpg for me). If you really want to take it up a notch, replace the OEM struts\shocks with a set of Koni Special Active Reds.
I bought a new car in 2019 and it came with Firestone FR740 tires. They're not worn out but I don't like them. Really looking forward to the Pilot Sports coming in. My car only has 10K miles now and the OEM struts are so stiff already.. the "SE" trim is mostly show and no go with Toyota but it does ride stiff and handle okay at least.
PS: Had a 2018 Mazda CX-5 Touring AWD for a year. Mazdas are incredibly nice to drive and feel very upscale inside the newer models. Had a rust spot where the windshield met the roof, the cylinder deactivation recall, clunk in the front suspension, and the auto-leveling LED headlights kept losing their aim.. that headlight thing I saw on a bunch of CX-5's on the road too, they'd auto level almost pointed at the ground. The transmission was also really jerky at low speeds (something to do with the TC locking up early).. so I parted ways. Looks like there's now a TSB on the slow speed jerkiness from a quick Google search.

How were the Primacy in comparison?
We are in the mid-Atlantic where snow generally isn't a big problem, averaging maybe a couple foot or more storms every couple of years or so. So I don't want to go too far into snow tire territory at the expense of everything else.
Thanks!

Also to note, Costco has the longest road hazard warranty from the last time I researched. 5 years. Also they do free rotations and rebalancing if you are willing to chance how long the wait time can be.
