A single run of 3dmark's Time Spy - 8319.
Desktop 3700X + RX 5700 XT supposedly gets 9216, according to their info.
Some other things to note..It's pretty hefty, around 8lbs together combined with the huge power brick. Gaming benefits however, it has a mux switch, which allows for more performance on the discrete gpu because it bypasses the igpu. Pretty sure the Thinkbook also has one, but can't confirm because I don't own one. I think the ram on Microcenter's Legion 5 (2021) isn't soldered also, which is nice because laptops/prebuilts lately come with the slowest ram possible cause cheaper production. This Microcenter particular config has: 16GB of DDR 3200 1Rx16 CL22, lower density. Being able to swap out to 1Rx8 or 2Rx8 (both sides have chips) with better timings ekes out a bit more performance. Just be careful since most laptops, including this one, does not have a BIOS that supports enabling of XMP, so besides finding ram that is 1Rx8 or 2Rx8, running at 3200MHz has to be default through plug and play.
Other than that, it does allow for 1 more m.2 nvme upgrade (no SATA bracket like in some other Legion configurations) in addition to a larger battery. Pretty noisy on performance mode, acceptable on Auto mode, but it won't thermal throttle since the cooling is pretty good.

Likewise, if anyone wnats to offset the cost of this laptop with for the last few months that Eth mining is still viable, it gets 40 Mhash out of the box. Overclocking it didn't yield much of an improvement. Even in Performance mode, and memory @ +650 it barely went up 2 Mhash. That improvement isn't worth the extra 35 watts of power used.
In any event, I'm happy. Problem solved and I hope it helps someone else.

It's a solid machine. I love it. I don't play on battery, plugged in constantly. The Lenovo has built in battery saver to stop the charge between 55-60.

Except for the coupon error on Lenovo.com, this seems like the lowest price for 3060 Legion 5. The only cheaper option with 100W+ 3060 was the Dell G15 deal but this has better build quality, keyboard and screen.
Had a motherboard failure about a month ago - just wouldn't POST out of the blue. Lenovo replaced the mobo and sent it back (about 10 days). Was working okay after repair, until we updated the BIOS which, surprisingly, took out the motherboard *again*. It's back at Lenovo for another depot repair.
Again, anecdotal. Most of the higher end Lenovo's we buy have been solid, and not seeing others mentioning multiple failures with this model, so we just may have a cursed one. But definitely has me thinking twice about getting one for personal use.
Thinkbook has:
- 16.0" WQXGA (2560 x 1600) IPS, anti-glare with Dolby Vision™, 400 nits
- Windows 10 Pro
- IR camera and fingerprint reader for Windows Hello
- 2hrs longer battery (less powerful though)
- 4.4lbs vs 5.28lbs (Legion)

- Both have 2x m.2 slots
- 8gb soldered with max 24gb (by adding 16gb stick) vs Legion has 2 slots
- Rapid Charge Pro (50% charge in 30 mins)
- 65w AC Adapter (smaller then 300w Legion brick)
You make your own decision, but I'd go for the Thinkbook. Looks more professional too. Legion only if all you care about is gaming.
There are videos comparing MaxQ to MaxP and the difference isn't huge. More power gives better performance, but less battery life.

I swung by Microcenter and grabbed the Legion. It's unopened right now. Does the Thinkpad have USB-C Charging?
