the number of times i've had to force close/restart a fire tv is…well, more than i can count. netflix has been broken on it for as long as amazon's had streaming devices (they seemingly don't want it to work well). the number of ads on the fire homepage is obscene. the slowness/lag for the menu ui is a huge drag.
none of these problems have showed up for me on the apple tv.
i would not recommend it to those who can't really afford it, but if you have the disposable income, it really does make your streaming tv watching life easier…

However, for people that have the means and want an effortless entire system for their grandparents, parents, and non tech savvy spouses, you can't beat it. Everything just works.
I have yet to see anything across all android devices that comes close.
Personally, I have a 2017 nvidia shield, but I would get this Apple TV for anyone else in my life without question since it will make my life easier when they have any tech issue.
I used to have iPhones for my wife and I, fire sticks on the TVs and fire tablets for the kids. The wife could never figure out how to work the kids tablets on road trips and it was challenging using the fire stick (yes, I realize they are pretty easy to use). Replaced them all with iPads and Apple TV's and don't hear one gripe from the wife about how she can't "fix" any of them. Worth every penny!!

Apple is one of the last few manufacturers that produce a high-quality durable product for a premium price. (Whether that premium price is worth it, is up to the individual)
They are what Sony "USED" to be...
Nowadays, Sony still command a premium price for TVs but it bested by the like of TCL & HiSense.
I wish Apple made TVs. I would definitely buy one. I would be willing to pay an extra $300~$500 bucks for a non-disposable TV. My last 65" Sony lasted 2 years!!
I also have a x900h running google/android tv (no idea what it's called now) and even that is flaky when using airplay and while it was super fast and smooth a year ago it's progressively gotten worse (such is the lifespan of a tv SoC today I suppose.)
