the difference between a 4k fire tv and an apple tv is like having a 10-yr-old saab versus a lexus

the number of times i've had to force close/restart a fire tv is…well, more than i can count. netflix has been broken on it for as long as amazon's had streaming devices (they seemingly don't want it to work well). the number of ads on the fire homepage is obscene. the slowness/lag for the menu ui is a huge drag.

none of these problems have showed up for me on the apple tv.

i would not recommend it to those who can't really afford it, but if you have the disposable income, it really does make your streaming tv watching life easier…

…which i realize is the most obscene and privileged sentence i've ever written

If you are into the Apple ecosystem it is the most seamless out there. This comes with a premium for sure which you can argue isn't worth it.

However, for people that have the means and want an effortless entire system for their grandparents, parents, and non tech savvy spouses, you can't beat it. Everything just works.

I have yet to see anything across all android devices that comes close.

Personally, I have a 2017 nvidia shield, but I would get this Apple TV for anyone else in my life without question since it will make my life easier when they have any tech issue.

I think the only reason you can use to defend the price is the simplicity caused be being a perfect fit in the ecosystem.

I used to have iPhones for my wife and I, fire sticks on the TVs and fire tablets for the kids. The wife could never figure out how to work the kids tablets on road trips and it was challenging using the fire stick (yes, I realize they are pretty easy to use). Replaced them all with iPads and Apple TV's and don't hear one gripe from the wife about how she can't "fix" any of them. Worth every penny!!

I have never had any issues with any of my fire tv devices. I do have an apple tv 4k but don't care for it over fire tv. Does the new apple tv remote control the tv power and volume?

Anyone use Funimation or Crunchy Roll on their Apple TV, not just this 4k model? I use ROKU and those two apps crash or lag worse than Warzone. I'd like to know in general with tvOS, if these apps have the same issue as on the ROKU tv: navigation is slow, sometimes doesn't play next show, selection box is invisible, skips selections, crashes, and like a 100 more.

It seems like such waste of money to get this for only 2 apps (that I use most frequently), but it's either this or go the Chromecast route. Nothing wrong with Chromecast... just rather not have to use my phone to scroll through and stuff.

I truly don't understand the price of Apple TVs. This isn't hate at all. I'll accept the thumbs down that are coming, but given all the products that are out there, I just don't get it. I'm willing to listen to reasons why too.

I personally find the Apple TV easier and works with all providers be it Google, Amazon, etc.
I have multiple Apple TV 4K's and love how I can change apps on 1 and it changes all of them at the same time, since they are all logged into the same iTunes account. I can switch to different iTunes accounts by holding down the TV button, comes in handy when I'm doing free subs to Apple TV+. For most streaming apps HBOMax, Starz, and many more I can start watching a show and if I don't finish it I can resume right where I left off without having to reload the app. Switching apps just like iPhone will by double clicking the TV button. In short I'd buy from Walmart or somewhere to try out, if you won't like it make it a easy return. The Apple TV is a great item but may not be for everyone. I purchased most of mine when DirectvNow was having buy service get device free.

That's not for the newest 4K version. Go to tech specs and you'll see that's the one with the A8 chip, not A12

I have both, and can't agree with your statement of Saab Vs Lexus. What do you mean by "Fire TV 4K"? Is it a Stick or Cube. Regardless, Fire TV 4K Stick has been amazing for me, it shouldn't take away the fact that also enjoy my Apple TV 4K. But your comparison is way off. Barely remember last time I had to reboot my Fire TV. But it happens a lot with my Apple TV. It has wake up and HDMI CEC issues with both of my TVs, Vizio and TCL. There are disadvantages and advantages with each streamer. Apple TV's UI and animations are more fluid and smooth. HBO Max was broken for ages, not sure if they fixed it. You can't sideload apps outside of the App Store and it doesn't support Dolby Profiles other than Profile 5. Or have you heard heard of TiviMate or Smart YouTube? Let's just say the Fire TV is not for you, but don't generalize your experience to others.
What is Smart youtube app? Tried googling around but couldn't find any info on its purpose.

Spectrum and Roku came to a resolution a month ago. The Spectrum app is available on the Roku.

My theory is that most manufacturers can afford to subsidize their streaming sets because they recoup their costs by ad revenue and selling your data. The Apple TV likely does not so they need to sell it at a higher cost. I'm not sure if this is 100% true, but just a guess.
