Good luck upgrading to Win11 on those specs... let alone running Win10 well.
I have an HP i3 7th generation with only 4GB or ram and this thing runs without any issues.

Threads like this are full of entertainment values (at least I was entertained). I do think for $279 for a FHD IPS screen and latest gen i3 CPU spec looks decent. But not a good value when the initial quality and reliability are low.

Can anyone confirm 100% on the RAM upgrade? If I could throw in an 8GB DIMM I think I'm a buyer.

Really depends on your needs. I have a Dell Venue 8 Pro with 2 Gigs of RAM that still runs Win 10 good enough for tablet style media consumption needs. It's slow and general productivity tasks are annoying, but it works.

This CPU is 10x more powerful and has double the RAM, so media consumption with some basic productivity should be OK. With a full HD IPS screen this is probably fine for that purpose if that's all you want.

"one hint: Extra Virgin Olive Oil."

Lmao.

I miss gateway. It was the first time I played on a winXP computer. I still remember those iconic cow boxes and when it was first brought into our home. Happy times.

The questions on the Gateway site indicate this does not work well at all.

And corporate is not answering those questions. RED FLAG.

Definitely Ryzen (if it's 5500u). AMD has twice the CPU performance and half of the energy consumption.

While the Ryzen 5 5500u laptop is more than $400 and is a older gen, to me it's still a worthy purchase from its value alone.

This might a good deal as my Plex server
The CPU is great, but the problem is storage. You're going to need some externals, either USB 2.5" for about $90/5TB or ridiculous 3.5" prices. The laptop might get overloaded by 3+ USB powered drives, so you might need a powered external hub. So either the hub or the 3.5" drives lose connections with a power flicker, so you'll need them on a UPS.

Basically, laptops as Plex servers have their limitations. But since these usually have terrible keyboards and touch pads, that cheap aspect can be ignored.

It might be, they keep reusing the first part of the part number and this 11th gen Intel generation appears brand new. I'm tempted to buy one and find out and return it if I'm unhappy.
