Google Nest Thermostat - Free + free Google Home Mini
Nest Learning Thermostat - $99 + free Google Home Mini
Is not NY but NJ only.
FYI - Other NJ utilities have been added... most name Elizabethtown Gas has regular nest for free with the mini (ends up being like $12 each after tax and shipping). JCPL has it for $29.
It's worth using the Compatibility Checker [google.com] before buying.
It's usually not hard to pop off the cover of your existing thermostat and see
- whether you have solid or stranded wiring
- what wires you have and how they are connected
Take a picture of the wiring and bring it to your computer. Enter the wires you have connected.
Also, if you install a thermostat, it's useful to have a picture of the original install - as guidance, and in case you decide to put the old thermostat back.

ORRRRRRRRRRRRRR the resident of a State with a policy that the resident doesn't like could , *gasp* , voice their displeasure, and advocate for what they believe is a better way ? Hello? This is America.
Same here.
Tstat deals are pretty regular, funded by energy rebates. About 3-4 weeks ago there was a deal for CT, which is nearly the same deal presented here (OP just found a website that lists the entire US) EXCEPT along with the Nest, they also included a Home Mini.
I bought 3 of the combo and paid around $8.50. I think the combo was a pre-Labor Day deal.

I am all for data protection privacy, but really I could care less about what the utilities company's sees off my nest thermostat. What are the potential downsides to this?
All our city's ( and I assume many others) all have "smart" meters for our eletric and water that can be read remotely at any time. They know everything just like your cellular provider... What are they gona look at? How much kW I use at night time when I crank the ac to 67? 😂

I tried the Learning thermostat and it brings me to my cart and says "This product ( #IK.NEST1 ) has a limit of To add a different item, please delete the current item and select a new product." But it also says I have no items in my cart.
I tried the cheaper one and it just says "The minimum quantity allowed for purchase is 1" every time I click add to cart, even though the Qty says 1. Even tried to set it to 2. Apparently, they think 2 is less than 1.
The other smart thermostats can be added to the cart though. The Honeywell T5 says it's on backorder and the estimated ship date is 5/2/2020. I don't have high hopes for this site.
