In Fairbanks right now and not being a d*ck, but I see most people not wearing masks here. It's not surprising they are having high rates of hospitalization here. Feel bad. I wish it was better.
For me, the fear is getting hurt while being out in nature and being put in a medical facility that is already understaffed due to current pandemic.

Everything's great when everything's great. It's the emergencies that are a problem.
Who goes to Alaska to hang around people?

Can't imagine your risk of the coof would be that high if your exploring the great outdoors or taking photos of the beautiful scenery.

Could go see the aurora I suppose. But the flights on this deal go through June, and June is the best month up there.

I was in Anchorage last week and was one of the few people wearing a mask in public besides a few waiters and gas station attendants. Not a great place for the COVID conscious unless you're going to fish/hunt off grid

Sounds like a wonderful place honestly.

Was curious what would be the best time to go.

Figured the last deal (BOGO) would put me there with not much to see during October - December, as far as wildlife. Not sure what to do but take a cruise after I got there would be useful or hit maybe one park or something.

Alaska is on the bucket list in the future.

I'll keep this in mind. IND to Anchorage was $150 round trip for the gauge I used.

just came back from AK, it was my 3rd time there. been to all places in greater AK from the arctic circle and south but never juneau or those areas. or parts near "russia." thinking about moving there next summer.

mostly people don't wear mask but still quite a few who do. i wore mine and it was never a hassle. but most of time i was outdoors and it wasn't a problem. for example, taking the portage glacier cruise you can wear the mask when you buy the tickets (indoors) and when you get on the boat and off. otherwise, you're on top, outdoors...no mask. like others have said, anchorage is a city just like anywhere else and if you want to wear a mask while you eat in a restaurant indoors, no problem. i got the jab so i enjoyed by trip (except sleeping in the airport for those redeye flights).

Just some stats: Alaska's current fully vaccinated rate is 52%. In comparison, CA is at 58%.

We went to Fairbanks and Anchorage in July. Weather was great. We spent a few nights in a cabin in North Pole, hiked around Denali then spent a few days in Anchorage.

If you like to hike, Anchorage and Denali were great.

If you like craft beers, there are a ton of breweries, but state law requires most of them to close at 8.

Seafood was great. The Paris Club in Anchorage was excellent, so was the 49th state brewery.

If I were to go back, I would spend my time in and around Anchorage and Denali. Fairbanks was a smaller town, and there wasn't much to do that we found. We were also there too early in the year for the aurora.
