a month later, it stopped working.
there was a layer of something (calcium?) around the ultrasonic device that turns the water to mist.
tried to chip it off with a screwdriver but it wouldnt chip off easy.
returned it.
does this $60 humidifier calcify around the ultrasonic device?
PH for those wanting PH 9 water hoping it will help if you have GERD or some other issue related to stomach acid, my gastroenterologist told me, well, your stomach is around 3 and the water is PH 9. From High-school chemistry this basically means the PH 9 water isn't really going to do much to affect your stomach acid level (hint: difference from PH 7, plus a logarithmic (log10) scale).
EDIT I meant PS in the paragraph above but when I saw it PH was funnier so Ieft it that way...
It's like, "I left my food in the pan on high and now it's a dark crust -- my pan must be defective"
As you get rid of water (i.e. the machine is doing what it's supposed to do), the minerals build up. That's why the discussion on this board about using demineralized water (which is not necessarily the same as bottle drinking water). Or various filter techniques as discussed here.
But in general, occasional cleaning, both rinsing, scrubbing, and treatment with white vinegar (cheap and easy to get in 1 Gal jugs) are necessary for anything that boils or vaporizes water.
