Amazon corporate: "How come we still have soo much unsold used junk? Didn't we run a 20% off sale recently?"
Amazon marketing: "How about we run a 40% off on used items that haven't sold in 90 days?"
Amazon corporate: "Ok, do it"
A few hours after the sales starts:
Amazon corporate: "WTF!! WHO PUT SO MANY USED THINGS AT 40% OFF! WHO'S RESPONSIBLE!!???"
Amazon marketing: "Umm...I thought we wanted to get rid of this junk? It's been sitting for a few months already and no one else wants it"
Amazon corporate: "KILL THE SALE NOW!!"
Amazon marketing: "Ok, we killed it"
Amazon corporate: "On second thought, is there a way to put only the REAL JUNK for 40% off, like the crap that no one buys"
Amazon marketing: "I guess we can put stuff that hasn't sold in at least 365 days, it's pretty much trash"
Amazon corporate: "Sounds good, do it"

Single Issue Magazine
Used - Like New
$124.70
How do you use a magazine?
It's one thing to say it happened one time, but you claim at least A couple, that's why they contacted you because that is extremely extremely rare to receive an empty box
As some one else said, I check every open box item the minute it arrives and have stopped buying basically anything mechanical as open box.

- NEVER give it as present
- NEVER buy something that is time critical to you
- ALMOST NEVER buy something that has a high failure rate (like hard drives).
Only if you have time and ability to test
- ALMOST NEVER buy huge, heavy items. Only buy if you can easily return.
- ALWAYS inspect the item as soon as it arrives
The GOOD thing is that Amazon is great about returns, so don't wait to inspect your product. Just some of my off-hand experiences:
- Got numerous products that weren't even close to what I ordered. Like one time, they sent a huge printer when I ordered a small item.
- Ping Ping table was badly beat up from transport and parts coming out. Was fine as was a great deal
- Invisible Dog Fence had a non-working collar. Had to contact manufacturer to get a new one
- Ordered 10 nice Decora outlets and got 3 ones that were new and 7 that were old and not even the same company, amperage or even close. I failed to inspect in time, so a loss for me. Clearly, they didn't spent 10 seconds looking at it before relisting.
- Bought a huge shower pan and it arrived in great, unused condition... but was the wrong direction making it worthless.
Keep in mind that people/contractors can be very unethical. They might break something and say it came that way. They might order a new product to replace their broken one and send back the broken one. I'm sure the shower pan was someone that ordered the wrong one, it went past the return period, so they ordered the right one and returned the wrong one in the box.
I still order Amazon Warehouse when I can, but Amazon basically has done the math and figured out that it's cheaper for them to not inspect the items and deal with the percentage of people that will go through the effort of returning the item rather than make sure the product is good.
