Aruba, Jamaica, oh I want to take ya... 😀
We just came back a month ago. Aruba is great but it depends on the experience you're looking for?

Some of the pros for Aruba:
- Outside of the hurricane zone
- USD is the common currency (I haven't seen anyone use a Florin)
- The island is really small (You can drive around it in 1 day if you have a Jeep. There are a few spots it gets rough in a regular car)
- People are super friendly
- Safe (This should probably be first...But compared to Jamaica where we got offered some mary j the moment we walked outside our hotel it's really no contest)
- Great food (There are a lot of hidden spots that are good - Use this trick to find them: Ask a local where they would go get their lunch/dinner....And after they give you a place, tell them you want the actual answer because almost all people will give you the tourist answer first but then tell you the best spots after you prod them some more)
- Weather is comfortable. We were there early August and it didn't feel like I was dying. It does get a bit humid but not terrible.
- They have their customs outpost In Aruba so when you land in US you just walk off the plane without having to compete with everyone from every other country going through customs.
One of the best islands I have ever been to. Safe, easy to go around and great restaurants and nightlife. Stay in the "Noord" part of the island. You will love it!

If you ever wanted to kiteboard/sailboard at Crissy Field this is the place to learn. Steady wind, warm shallow water. Plenty of bootcamp through advanced schools.

What resort is that pictured on OP?
That is the Renissance. They own an island off of aruba. That is what the pic is of. You can't stay there overnight and you need to pay extra daily to gain access to those huts. What sucks is that people constantly reserve it well ahead of time and the openings do not open back up on there system after a cancelation, so it has become impossible to reserve. As a result, getting those huts is sort of a shot in the dark and you get it if you get and you don't if you don't. Overall, the actual private island is not even that great. You see flamingos and that is the highlight.

It depends what you like. Aruba is a very flat island with little to do besides going to the beach (very beautiful), spending money, and partying. To people who enjoy more adventure or something more than the beach and water, you will find Aruba to be boring and pricey island.
Spot on. I'd add that hurricanes don't hit it due to its position, and it's very dry. They grow aloe on the island, the biggest natural bridge fell in, there's a gold smelting ruin, and a lighthouse. There is some parasailing and you can snorkel around a WW2 German wreck or something and turtles.

Peak Hurricane season is early September. It is possible to see Hurricanes in November/December - but by the time these sales take place, it is almost over.

I am shocked at $280 from San Fran - I looked at flights from Raleigh, and the best deal was $383, according to Kayak (connects through Charlotte). So this is a whopper of a deal!

Seems like any date for 16th 18th is no longer $280. Cheapest on 16th seems to be $477, 18th is $284. The $284 one on the 18th leaves ~9AM, arrives 2:06PM... two stops, 26+ hour flight (looks like a no-go). The first date with $280 is the 20th. This one seems okay since you fly at midnight (11:59) on Wednesday, get into Charlotte at 8AM, wait ~2 hours and then fly to Aruba and land at 2PM. There's also another flight that leaves ~1.5 hours after the first flight out of Charlotte.

I'm guessing there aren't any direct flights to the country from SFO so this trip is probably your best bet.

I thought "Level 4: Do not travel" means you can't travel there.
Or is it just an informational guideline?

It's a tempting price and seems like people have visited recently so I might just bite...

Isn't pretty much every where a level 4? i am sure we are considered a level 4 to other countries.

Also, anyone asking about visiting. Surprised all of the "pros" didn't mention. You'll get hit with the trade winds. Extremely windy. Not bad. We don't mind it. BUT. Lock down all of your gear on the beach that can take flight AND expect to be pellted in the face by sand every so often. ALSO you can see the lights of Venezuela and Columbia at night. Only miles away by boat. Expect some good, pure...night life fun. Oh yeah. One happy island. We love it there and go every year. Lots of nj/NY

Can attest to this. We went the second week of July and the winds would pick up and you had to turn around and get your calf's sandblasted for a few seconds. This happened ever so frequently. It wouldn't be such a big deal if the sand was like powder but it's coarse.

We stayed at Riu Palace and overall it was a good experience.
I heard a tons of NY/NJ accents.

ive been to Aruba....its known as "one of the the driest islands on the carribian." No trees. The hotels are old. Its a 4 hour flight or so from Miami. Personally I would not go back. Go to Mexico, CanCun. Much cheaper and a lot closer....and it actually has palm trees and rain forest. Also as some have mentioned, WINDY! We had to pull out of the beach one afternoon. Like I said, go to Mexico, Punta Cana or some other spot which is closer, nicer and has some trees.

One of the best destinations to travel in the Caribbean in autumn....being outside the hurricane zone pretty much assures you of nice weather...Great beaches, white sand, good snorkeling with lots of aquatic life...

If you're looking for history, rainforest, greenery, etc....then pick a different destination and a different time to travel

Someone did a documentary on all the places this song listed as hot destinations back in the day, now some of them are desolate filled with old abandoned resorts. I thought Aruba was one of them D:
