I recommend giving the newer keyboard a physical test-drive at a store or just be prepared to exercise the return option.

The Ergo 4000 has been my go-to for seven years. I had telepathic command of all of its keys. However, when I "upgraded" to the newer ergonomic keyboard, I didnt have this command anymore. It is hard to explain...the key travel is a bit more shallow, and the taper of the keys from the top of the keyboard to the bottom is smoother and less punctuated. Imagine stairsteps which have a larger height difference between each step vs a ramp. I prefer the former. I ended up returning the newer KB and am still using the 4000. It isnt technically broken, but it is *very* worn out.

Ironically, the MS sculpt has even less key travel, but yet I adapted to it well, but not so with the new ergo. However, the sculpt doesnt have a number pad, which is a huge no-no for my work. So I ended up returning it as well.

Tl;dr - go try the new one out and form your own opinion. Comfort is very subjective.

Worth upgrading from the MS Ergo 4000? Looks very similar so I assume not.

Some Best Buy reviews say it has a smaller footprint and no gap between number row and function keys.

I replaced my 4000 with this one because the 4000 was old and starting to fail on some keys. I wouldn't call this an upgrade but it is very similar and the only one that you will find that will match what you have in the 4000. Long way to say not worth an "upgrade" but should be your replacement/spare.

I too replaced an old 4000 with this one due to failing keys and so far so good after about a year of use. The 4000 seemed to have a few more features (most of which I never used) but this is definitely a suitable replacement. Thinking of getting this as a spare since it seems like these are never on sale when I need one.

So it still has the stiff keys like on the 4000?

how is the space bar feeling here? 4000 was notorious for its space bar inconsistency issues.

Says something about a product when it's been made for what, decades? with little change.

I have one of these on each of my work and home PC's and only had to replace the work one once. Going back to "normal" kb's is definitely an issue when I'm not at either PC (and laptop kb suck altogether)

What about the wrist rest? My current model is almost like a faux leather. That model almost looks like a mouse pad - is it gel beneath or??

This is a solid albeit bare-bones split-key ergonomic keyboard, and this is a great price for it. The only issue with this keyboard is its large width, which forces right-handed mouse users to reach further than when using a normal keyboard. Especially for those with narrower builds, this can lead to poor posture. A great alternative split-key keyboard for such users is the Jelly Comb KE68 - https://www.jellycomb.com/products/ke68-keyboard

Palm rest the best part of this keyword and the keys almost feel mechanical. I am super picky with the keys and settled on this vs other wireless ones

Anyone knows how this compares to Logitech K350 please. Is the Logitech worth $7 more for being wireless or does the MS have better ergonomics?
