I think it's actually a remaster of the games, but I may be wrong.
Whether on CD or a streaming download file, the compression may vary greatly.
Also, devs routinely update the code to their games. As the first Syberia is 20 years old, I'm sure a considerable amount of code was changed to make it work on newer computers and versions of Windows or Mac. Likely the graphics have been upgraded multiple times.
Then, you have the assortment of things like Visual C++, Direct X, sound processing, and other packages that were likely not on the original CD. Plus, there may be drivers and other packages.
You can pop the CD in and open it to compare it to the Steam version on your computer.
🤣🤣🤣 You did that big explanation, but what that guy meant was that the person before him kept misspelling the name, "Syberia."
Completely unnecessary explanation.
How do you keep misspelling "Syberia" when it's right there for you to copy? 🤣
Your way wouldn't even be correct if the game had the correct spelling of Siberia. 🤣

What is truly necessary in this world? 🤔

Played it way back, and have fond memories. Remember seeing the animation coming from The Longest Journey and was blown away by how smooth they looked. The dialogue's witty, the scenarios are cute. Remember loving the first one more than the second, due to how everything connects together.
Wonder if it still holds up. Thanks OP.

Main character from The Longest Journey1 is in 2nd game but have become less important. The Longest Journey2 is decent but has weak ending.
Completely unnecessary explanation.
Before Windows games, DOS games required to modify how the game is loaded into 640K and Extended Memory to function. After secondary 3D video card came out, games look nice in 3D but then when games become Windows based, 3D games that require scondary 3D video card became incompatible again.
Then, DirectX started having compatibility with certain old Windows games.
I finally gave up gaming on PC because I spent more time tweaking my PC to run Windows games properly. Worse is Windows games are not properly optimized for older processors.
Xbox360 can run every games including launch X360 games.
Launch PS3 could run PS2 games on disc but Sony removed PS2 processors from slim PS3 models.
Before Playsattion4 came out, Sony started to cripple a few PS3 launch games and made them incompatible with newest firmware updates. A few PS3 games still function but run poorly because Sony reallocated PS3 memory for other functions.

Never thought they're good, clunky control, so so story, only music seems good.
Don't understand why first one got Adventure Game of the Year, the only reason I could think of is there were no competitors (it was out of fashion at that time).
Grim Fandango is still my all time favorite. Wish they made a sequel or prequel.
