No, that board will support 6th and 7th gen. At least not officially and easily - I've seen some modded bios get 8th/9th gen cpu's to work on z170/z270.

The Comet Lake i3 is equivalent to the old Sandybridge i7s in per core performance. But I stll have Sandybridge machines working well. Their DDR3 memory is slow and keep crapping out without many choices to replace.

Intel CPUs never drop that low, even generations older. These are selling for more used on ebay.

Wish I had a Micro Center by me.

Save $50 with a motherboard too, not sure what kind of selection they have for an old socket tho.

Edit, they have zero 1151 socket Mobos at my store so YMMV on that.

I'd do it for $100, 3 gens old for $150 is a bit on the pricey side still.

There should be some huge discounts on old gen hopefully with Alderlake coming out in November.

This is actually a great deal on a very good chip. You can also get a $50 discount off a board if you do a combo.
