$0 delivery fee. But what they don't make clear is all the other charges they add on the last screen before you order. They also don't tell you that the "menu" prices you pay for food are almost always higher than the restaurant charges, so that's another hidden charge.
Only time I order through UberEats delivery is when UberEats provides the discount - so that I can tip (minimum $5 or 15% - whichever is greater) the driver without feeling like I'm getting ripped off. I don't really use it often though. Feel like UberEats and DoorDash services are designed to hit the Goldilocks point to create losers all around - restaurants make less money, drivers somehow lose out, and Uber/DoorDash are losing money like it's the dot com bubble again!
Exactly. No one wins with delivery apps. I don't think any of the apps have turned a profit (like any good tech company).
Do you have own shares of delivery apps or something? Not sure why you're so protective. Restaurants kinda have to use the apps if they want to survive. The only way restaurants get visibility is by using these apps, so their hand is being forced.
I do not and I don't use the service as I would rather save the fee/tip and pickup myself.
I do however get a bit irritated when people say Uber charges higher menu costs…that is set by the restaurant. Or they don't tip because Uber already charges a fee.
My extended family actually believes their small restaurant was saved by these delivery services, and their business has grown. I am not part of that, so it's just coming from them.
I did temporarily drive for them when I needed work between jobs, but I don't use them today. *Unless I get one of those $20 off $25 deals, and even then they usually expire before I use them.

Oh, if you all are not tipping your drivers, please do so. I was in between jobs for the first time in 25 years and started doing Uber eats to help make ends meet. I can't tell you how many times I had to deliver a Starbucks coffee to some apartment that took a total of 30 minutes and no tip. (I live in and delivered in a highly populated suburban area) I quit accepting Starbucks and McDonald's orders because of that. Yeah, the pay from Uber is pretty low, as 75% of what you make is based on tips. Uber pays based on pickup/delivery and distance. It's not much, so that 30 minute pickup and delivery normally only got me $3. Sure Uber could pay more, but a basic tip makes all the difference. I haven't done it in a while so hopefully things have changed. I will say once Uber adjusted the app to have tips be easier to offer, that changed drastically.
Yes, if anyone expects to get their food in a reasonable amount of time or if at all, they will have to tip well. Especially those of you who live in a large complex where we as drivers have to go the extra mile to find you. Drivers can only do this work on tips.
Doordash is the only one with a membership that doesn't jack up restaurant prices or add service fees and crap. Straight 5%.
But as a driver, doordash sucks because the tips are mostly awful. If doordash didn't have the large base that they do, they couldn't get away with it.
Others acting like these services are the devil are not informed either. They don't set the prices, another incorrect comment that keeps appearing, and they are not forced to use them.
You're mostly correct there, but many restaurants basically have to raise their prices to cover the high fees.
As for restaurants not being forced to use them... I'm pretty sure those who have been listed there without their permission or desire to be listed, then went through hell to remove the listing, would disagree with you (another thing you can easily Google).

I agree, unless youre getting 40%+ off coupons to use, UberEats is more expensive than other apps and way more expensive than pickup or delivery (if the place offers their own)

IMO should be only very few people win with the delivery apps....the CEOs all become multi-billionaires upon IPO....while the investors provide the funds to cover all the losses... and in many cases the "investors" are mutual fund managers playing with other people's money...

I have a restaurant on Uber Eats. We control the pricing and currently do not mark up Uber eats orders. That restaurant is too lazy to create a separate pricing menu in their in house point of sale system. That is why your receipt shows those pricing.
Nice of you doing that. Many restaurants add $1 and in some cases $2 to $3 per dish.
$1 for a $10 item is a 10% Uber/Doordash/Grubhub fee IMO is very acceptable given the discounts I get. But some restaurants charge $2 to $3 per item that completely rule out of any incentive to use those apps to order. That I consider a bit excessive. For a delivery order even with Uber Pass the fees and tips can be like 60%-70% extra....To me that is way too expensive to be worth it.
