No its dotdot for atmos. The ear level channels and height channels are interchangable, but the subwooofer ones are not. So 7.2 is seven channels (either ear level or height) and 2 subwoofer channels (really its just 1 split..but its marketing to call it .2). So this receiver can do 5.2.2 or 7.2.0. it cannot support 5.1.4 or 7.1.4 (5.1.4 would require a 9.1 receiver, and 7.1.4 would be an 11.1 channel receiver...those exist..but not in this price range).
Damn. I bought my 750h 5 months ago. I cooooould return it. But that's kind of a dick move for a perfectly working item
That's not how it works. People act like they're suddenly entitled to some to something when they pay the tiny annual fee (are you really of the mindset that the pitiful $60 actually covers the loss here?). Do you also act like you can intentionally wreck your cars because you pay for insurance?

If his device had broken 5 months ago and he returned it, that's one thing. But, to go and return it because there's suddenly a different device? "Come on, man." It's literally the reason why they changed the unlimited return policy to 90 days for electronics, because people were grossly taking advantage of it.

I just picked up a unit yesterday in Miami. The palette was full here too. I am replacing a ten year old flagship 4311ci. I am predominantly using it for eARC as my 2 2.1 Sources (AppleTV4K and Xbox Series X/PS5) are direct attached to the LG CX OLED and running audio back down to the 4311 via ARC, which is garbage since you lose the lossless formats. Hope it gets the job done!
quite a step down in amplification quality, I hate to tell you

I have a question about the volume. I have the S750H. I have to crank up the volume to a level between 50-60 to be able to enjoy the movies.
My hearing is fine, but I feel my previous receivers didn't have to work this hard. FYI, all my previous Denon receivers use decibels.
Is this normal?
Don't hesitate to crank it up. There is circuitry that shuts off the unit if it gets too hot. Try it at higher volumes and if it doesn't shut off on you then you amp is fine. Oh make sure it's not in an enclosed cabinet without ample ventilation

Well the real motivation is this is a stopgap until the higher end units get released at reasonable prices; Eventually this unit is moving to replace a Pioneer LXv103 which is connected to a Passive 5 Channel Polk Soundbar in the bedroom(not even sure you can get these anymore)

From when I bought this 4311 to now, I have 2 kids so I can't blast the sound like I used to anymore hah. As long as its serviceable, and eliminated lip sync (which is rather annoying) then it will be fine.

Nice catch! I had missed that. I just updated the post.
While I agree that the Denon Factory Refurbs are a great bargain and will likely perform as good as new, the AVR-960H is one of the models which have 4K/120Hz & 8K Incompatibility Issue. This affects people who have the latest gaming devices that utilize 4K/120 or 8K video resolutions. Denon is providing a fix by means of a HDMI adapter (an external device, the size of a DVD case) at no cost. I'm not sure what the wait for this adapter is but anyone potentially affected should note that this caveat. Also it's a messy setup as shown in the diagram on the page I linked below. I've read that Yamaha (I believe it plagues the TSR-700 / RX-V6A) has a similar problem for which they've announced a board change - again that means customers may have to either ship the device to the factory (most likely) and wait for months to get back or change the board themselves (least likely). Hopefully this 760H and other newer models have these issues resolved out of the box.

Does Costco take returns without a box? I threw away the box for my TSR-700 a long time ago.
I once saw a lady return an X-Box in a plastic shopping bag. The store was all ready to accept it, but she was missing something like a controller. And SHE was flipping out at the rep. Not sure if that's still true - but i think as long as they can find the item number, they might.

If you bought it from Costco, they'll take it back, working or not. If it's actually still in perfectly working condition, just let them know that so that they can try and sell it used/without box, etc. All you have to say is that the quality wasn't to your satisfaction for the price and that you think there's better options available out there for you. It can literally just be because "I don't like it." Say you kept it so long because you wanted to give it a full trial, yadda yadda. Most of the time they really don't care.

And if they don't give you your money back for some crazy reason, they'll usually either give you store credit (which you can put towards the new item), or just let you pick out a 'replacement' for the same price or lower. If it's higher, you just pay the difference.

I don't think it's really a dick move. You literally pay them an annual fee just to shop in their store. The rest of the perks are there to both further entice you as well as stave off the competition. They uphold that mighty return policy because it's what keeps people coming back - the safety and security that you can make high priced purchases without the full commitment. MOST of the time we really do stay committed - we just needed that safety net.

Do some people abuse it? Surely. But I doubt it's enough for it to really make any difference to them at the end of the day. They've got a pretty solid business model that's positively thriving, even in these times. So seriously, if you really want this instead, I say go for it. That's the beauty of it. It'll make you happy, right? You'll walk out of there feeling like a king with your new product in hand, and for them, well, they can rest assured you'll be returning again and again and, of course, renewing that membership. 👍🏻 It's a win/win.

will this help improve sound quality from AppleTV4K(newer model), Shield and Google TV connected to LG B7 OLED? I have Vizio M512a-H6 Soundbar (5.1.2) connected via ARC. Usually, using any source, dialogues are not clear no matter what settings i change and always end up cranking up the volume.

and the ARC is a pain in you know what. i have to reboot the soundbar once every week atleast to get the handshake to work.

Does it make a difference? It surely does! Sooner than later, such return privileges will be lifted off (or changed) by the stores. They will make them stricter or reduce the return periods. This is what happens if everybody starts abusing the generous return policies that we currently have - for no real reason. We should never abuse privileges or take things for granted - these are bad moves!

Buying just this receiver won't do you any good. Would have to invest in a set of speakers (at least six) for a true 5.1 surround. It's either this (plus speakers) or a sound bar. Don't think you would be able to connect your current sound bar to this receiver.

If VRR and 4k120hz really work out of the box on all three ports like they're supposed to, that's huge. I'll have to pass though, because unfortunately it only has one HDMI out.

Hopefully this means that other units from other manufacturers are coming soon that will just work without service or non-existent firmwares.

Looking at the photos of the back of this unit, it appears there are no outputs other than the one HDMI.
I need to connect some kind of output to my analog amps for outdoor speakers.
I am currently using a cheap optical to analog converter.

Out of curiosity, why do you want more than two outputs? Don't you just hook up to a TV?

I couldn't agree more. I slid a S750H in my system to replace an older Yamaha and returned the Denon after spending about 2 weeks trying to get it to sound as good as the Yamaha. Had to really crank up the center and still couldn't get a decent balance in my 5.2 system. Put the Yamaha back in and it just sounds way better with movie soundtracks. I'm hoping Costco gets an updated Yamaha soon.
