I cashed out my discover cash back for the happy gift cards last year that had Lowe's and GameStop. If your plan is to try to convert to third party gift cards, I wouldn't recommend it. For Lowe's, all the stores around me in Chicago have simply stopped carrying third party gift cards. While on a trip to Bloomington, I stopped at a Lowe's with third party gift cards but the cashiers and manager would not let it me use the happy gift cards to buy them. I ended up using them to buy GameStop gift cards at a GameStop in hopes of buying an Xbox Series X. It's obviously pretty hard to liquidate a GameStop gift card. I'm sure others had easy experiences, but for anyone thinking to quickly convert these to Amazon gift cards it's seriously YMMV.

Depends on the location. The card specifically says that no gift card can be purchased, but some Lowe's employees don't check on them.

Please note that at my local Lowe's, gift cards can only be purchased at a manned register (i.e. no self-service kiosk).

Yes, and that's what makes these a good deal. These are run as credit gc's which Happy doesn't sell directly. I used over $500 last winter to buy Amazon GC at Lowes using the same method.

You got a jerk cashier that's all. These cards are prepaid Visa's, they WILL work provided you don't flash it around and just act cool like you're using a credit card.

I honestly don't understand why cashiers give two shits about what you pay with.... so long as the system takes it, who the hell cares? Why go hassling people?

Does anyone know the $ limit of self checkout? I don't want to deal with a cashier if I don't have to.

In my case, I've had a cashier who asked for my driver license when I buy gift cards, so this wouldn't work because the card doesn't have any name.

Just try another Lowes. I converted it to Amazon gc by self check out without problem.

Tried self check out first and was prompted again to go to a cashier. No go again got denied. Went to another Lowes and was told I could only pay with either cash or debit card. I asked how about store credit and was also given a NO. I wonder if it's because I'm in the SF Bay Area and they had a high rate of fraud for gift cards.

Be careful with Lowes gift cards. I bought some last year when they did the spend $150 and get $30 one free. I used all but $52 of the $150 and none of the $30 one and went to spend them this year and it said they both had a 0 balance as of 12/31/2020. They literally zeroed them out at the end of the year when they were purchased in June. They use a 3rd party for their gift cards which has told me that they cannot track the orders after my first one they were used on. So they could track my first order but nothing after that to explain why my cards were zeroed out. They transferred me to Lowes Corporate who told me to file a fraud claim with my local PD. Literally a "Cop out". Like a local PD is going to do anything for $82 worth of gift cards. So if you get the gift cards spend them immediately and spend all of it.

Just bought $45 AMZ variable GC via Lowe's SCO and paid with my Happy Holidays GC from Discover. No beeps, no overrides, no staff involve.

$36 Discover rewards pts => $45 Happy Holidays GC => $45 AMZ GCC. Noice! Smilie

Yes, just use it like a credit card and swipe at the register to pay for the third party gift cards.

I don't advertise that I have a Happy Holiday card when paying and have never had a problem using it for eBay and Amazon gc at Lowes.

If I can use my Happy Holidays card to buy AMZ GC, I don't see why it's not gonna work with other 3rd party GCs.

My experience at my local SF Bay Area Lowe's was that it wouldn't allow me to purchase at the self-checkout register. But the associate there just manually rung me up. I just swiped the Happy Holiday cards as a normal credit card and it went right through.

That's why I never buy GC if the discount is < 20%. I have been burnt on some too.

1. So, can these be used a credit card anywehere? or it can be used as credit card at locations mentioned on the card, 'macys, gamestop, lowe's, red lobster' etc.

2. I thought the card said grubhub when I was buying it online on discover rewards website (I could be wrong here). Now, on the physical card I don't see it (happy holidays card). Is there a way to still use in on GH?

It can only be used at the stores listed on the Happy Holidays GC.

I personally had combined 4 of those $25 happy cards to buy several of the $100 mastercards prepaid cards at homedepot with the happy cards that have Homedepot option. It costs about $5/6 but you are still ahead with the 20% discount. This was in sfbay area.
