I feel it's planned obsolescence.

Got one of these too and I'd say the 4 is a much better deal, unless you need the IPX7 Waterproof which the Onyx 4 doesn't have

The battery on the Onyx series (all models) makes them basically useless as far as a portable bluetooth speaker goes. The Onyx 6 has a 3200mah battery, which is 1/3-1/5 of what the competition is currently using in their similarly priced products. Most top rated speakers in the $100 price range are currently using around 10000mah batteries, while the largest of the bunch is the W King X10 which has 15000mah battery life.
The sound quality from the Onyx series is fantastic, and gives a decent amount of volume, but ONLY when plugged into an outlet! Once you unplug them, the overall volume (and bass) drops significantly! Watch this video if you don't believe me:

The Soundcore Motion Boom is 2 decibels louder than the Onyx 6, and that is when the Onyx 6 is plugged in. The Motion Boom is 6 decibels louder than the Onyx 6 when it's using battery power. That is a MASSIVE difference!
If you want a nice looking speaker that sounds great when plugged in, and you will only be using it on its battery for short periods of time and not very often, then this speaker is for you.
If you want a portable speaker to bring to the beach or listen to in the backyard by the pool, this is not for you. Here are some much better (and often cheaper) options:
Soundcore Motion Boom - this is considered the best budget speaker on the market, and is the speaker directly compared to the Onyx 6 is the video above. It has been increasing in price lately, as the reviews are pouring in on Soundcores Amazon page. I purchased both of mine for $76 each (it's now $110 on Amazon). If the Motion Boom ever drops to $76 again, anyone on here who wants a bluetooth speaker should buy 2 instantly! Two motion booms paired in stereo sound absolutely insane! They would make a single Onyx 6 sound like a toy, and for the exact same amount of money that this model 6 is currently selling for.
W King X10 - larger and louder than the Motion Boom (2 decibels louder), but doesn't have the custom EQ app, so it's not as versatile. Largest battery of any mid sized portable speaker, which gives it 6 hours of playtime at Max volume, which is VERY loud! Also has a carrying strap and looks/feels very similar to the JBL Extreme series. Currently selling for right around $100 on Amazon.
I hope this has helped at least a few of you on here. Learn from my mistakes! I have over a dozen mid to high end bluetooth speakers, and have spent thousands on them over the years! I ended up giving away my Onyx 4 and Go+ Play, as they were pretty much useless as far as portable speakers go. Here is my buying guide:

I will say, the Onyx 4 is an excellent choice for a stationary speaker that remains plugged in all the time. Sounds great and looks nice as well.

Someone posted a video on a previous thread comparing the Studio 4 and 6 and I watched it with good headphones. The 6 sounded better in almost everything. Thinking about it, I'm not sure what stereo woofers would help in one individual speaker source; it's not like you'll be placing your head right between them so you're just hearing mono sound anyway when you play it in a room or outside.
Also can't speak to battery life, but I don't have high expectations. I have a portable battery with a power outlet on it so I'm hoping that will enough to keep it going when hanging out outside and stuff. We'll see.
But anyway, the bass is quite deep and substantial which is nice, but I wish there were an app or something to control the mixing. I listen to a lot of jazz and I think I'd like the highs a bit brighter.
update: I just downloaded the Wavelet app on Android and with the treble boost preset, jazz now sounds perfect (to me)
