I have been on this plan for about 2 to 3 months now. Here's my experience with it:

First off, I've received two gateway receivers from them. The first one seemed to act up a lot, and a lot of the cons are based on the first device. The second one I received seems to have significantly less problems, but YMMV. The gateway device (or 5G grey trashcan as some people call it) is pretty much a modem and a wifi router combined.

PROS:
When configured correctly, speeds can hit up to 270 mbps downloading
Configuring device is pretty simple out of the box
Price is really cheap

CONS:
Speeds fluctuate depending on time of day
If technicians are working on specific towers, my internet can be completely down until it is fixed, which could take up to a day
Changing SSID or SSID PW does not always stick and will reset to default ID and PW
Gateway gets hot sometimes and needs to be restarted for it to work properly. To mitigate the workload, I've connected my own wifi router to the gateway, and used my own router to do the wifi processing. It seems to help a lot in preventing restarts.
There are only 2 lan ports on the gateway, but you can still connect a wifi router to the lan ports and get it to work that way.
Customer service is in India, and sometimes takes a really long time to get to someone. I've had to call multiple times to get something fixed or replaced. It gets frustrating.

RECOMMENDATION:
If you have cable or fios, I recommend sticking to it as the speeds tend to be more reliable. If you're in rural areas but get good speeds with T-Mobile, then it's worth considering to switch. When I first got T-Mobile Home Internet, my area was still having problems with reliable service, and I think it was due to the towers here. However, after the gateway replacement, and probably the tower upgrades, it seems to be a lot more stable now. In the end, it's YMMV based on your towers.
I'm very happy with ours. 287 down, 28 up just now. Usually we get 100-150 down and 15-20 up.

I've had as fast as 400 down.
I was thinking about this but after some research I learned with this service you're locked out of a bridge mode so you can't add a mesh router, configure DNS. Also depending on where you live you could get downloads up to 400mbps or down to 50mbps or even down to 100kbps-500kbps. I hope people who go with this have positive experiences

I signed up before but the speeds during the daytime in the congested area are just totally nightmare regardless of full bars or how close I am to their tower. I am at SoCal Anaheim Fullerton zone and in the middle of nights, I will have closed to 500 mbps and day time to evenings are just single mbps or under 1 mbps. My ping is mostly under 11ms only.
On top of that, it's IP6 only and not support VPN protocol till recently which I still heard ppl saying not working well on reddit.
If you have choices with cheap unlimited cable or fiber like most of SoCal residents, stay far far away from not cheap $50 T-Mobile. It's not for you.

I am loving my T-Mobile home internet so far. I am usually between 200-600 down (average 350-400) and 75-100 up. The upload is incredible. I just plugged in my Linksys Velop mesh setup and it just worked. I also am taking advantage of the T-Mobile YouTube TV discount of $10/mo. So compared to Comcast, I was getting 200 down/11 up and digital starter for $165. Saving $50 a month is pretty cool. And my Synology NAS is much more accessible with the way better upload speeds. Zero issues here! It has been almost 2 months now.

Genuine question: what made you guys opt for T-mo Home Internet vs the traditional cable/fiber/DSL broadband internet?

I have T-mo 5G network on my phone but while the speed can be really fast, it varies a lot by location and network congestion is another big issue for me. Sometimes it wouldn't even really load anything (more like dial-up speed) in certain areas/spots, particularly with a high number of users/population and in stores/buildings.

My wife and I work from home 100% so we need a reliable connection and while I've seen the ads/promos for T-mo Home Internet multiple times, for the main reason above, I don't think it'd make sense for us.

Additionally, we're paying $30/month for 200mbps which I think is a really good deal so $50/month is almost double what we currently pay and from this standpoint too, T-mo Home Internet just doesn't make sense.

Anything else I'm missing here / not considering? Unless maybe you happen to live in an area where no other ISPs serve you but T-mo somehow does? (which I think is probably quite rare).

Thank you!
If you have fiber or cable run in your area for a reasonable price, keep it. But, many of us live in areas where cable or fiber has never been run, your only options are wireless(4G or 5G), Satellite, or dial-up. We had been paying $90 a month for 4G home internet, so this service is a game changer! Starlink is still too expensive and has a $500 equipment fee, with T-Mobile 5G I get reliability and great speeds(60-150Mbps down) compared to what we used to(15-50Mbps). I did rig mine up with a Yagi MIMO antenna to boost the signal quality, it isn't too difficult and there are how-to tutorials on Youtube. This T-mobile device does get toasty! So, get some extra fans to blow under it to keep it cool. You can also use an external router of your choice, just run an ethernet cable from the T-mobile device to your router and turn off all the wifi channels in the settings. This service has been a huge blessing to my family in a somewhat rural setting!

It depends on the speeds you're getting with Spectrum and TMO's coverage in your area. We had Spectrum and ATT both competing in our neighborhood, but with only one nearby TMO 5g tower, our TMO home internet speeds maxed out at 50-75 down and about 35 up. That's probably more than enough for many folks who don't otherwise have access to those speeds, but considering our alternatives, we switched back to ATT Fiber. A TMO rep mentioned that the unit would use the "best signal possible," but we quickly learned that that mean 5G only so we were never able to get the faster LTE-only speeds.

TLDR, check TMO coverage for your area. If good coverage TMO may be competitive depending on the kinds of speeds you're getting with Spectrum. As for the coverage, that would be taken care of by a mesh system.

Does a tmobile phone's 5G speed & signal strength give a good representation of how fast this home internet would be in the same area?
In our case, yes. the speeds matched up pretty well. But note that our area only has one 5G tower, so switching our phones to LTE-only resulted in faster speeds across all of our phones. The slower 5G speeds we were getting on our phones (not a throttling issue) matched speed tests with the TMO home internet setup. A TMO rep mentioned that the unit would use the "best signal possible," but we quickly learned that that meant 5G only so we were never able to get the faster LTE-only speeds.

It should work well if your area has good LTE or 5G connection. Your existing router can connect to the T-Mobile gateway's LAN port, so your existing network looks nothing changes

the location of my warehouse in the city of La Verne, California (decent sized city near Los Angeles) does not get anything other than DSL at 1.5mbps down / 756kb up. My house 3 miles away gets verizon fios gigabit fiber.

this is for someone like me.

I'm 500 ft near to t mobile tower in bloomington, il. I get max download speed of 200mbps and max upload of 90mbps. but on an average , down speed is 150mbps and upload around 40mbps with wireless connections near to my gate way device which is at down floor. if I move to first floor, my download speed reduces to 100mbps and upload to 20mbps. ping time is around 30 to 40ms. somehow I feel the connection is not very stable and line quality is not good bcoz of varying speeds.

i just got this recently. Heres my little review. Im paying 50 instead of 110 for comcast. I actually got faster download speed then when im with comcast. i live in a 1400 sq ft house.
Coverage around and outside my house is fine. Now for the bad part. I do get drops. there are no rhyme or reasons on when will i get drop. not sure if it is the wifi router or the network. i could get drop any time of the day. Second thing i notice is that when im downloading something on my comp that is hot wired from the router. everything else seems to not work or very slowly. I think the router they provide prioritize hot wire then wifi. So if you must need wifi for meetings they you might get drop. But for my needs it works well. but coverage is also ymmv

A tip in life - see if it's available in your area, and then use that to negotiate a lower internet bill with your ISP. I did that with Cox and had them lock in a 500 plan for two years at $65. The reps know all of the providers in your area but they don't know if you're a TMO customer (nor does it matter) so it's smart to act like you're compelled by the speeds/ease/whatever
