Burn in is overstated. I've left static images on my C8 up for 5+ hours. No issues, and that's 2 models old.

Biggest question is, anyone have any issues with these refurbished units?
Agreed, the burn in fear is a but overstated- (i am an original adopter of OLED w a b7 series.
Do you understand how Burn in works? Unless this is a store display and on a static menu 24/7 for months...and the burn in settings are turned off. Smh

grabbed one yesterday from jersey, $2063 otd w tax.
worth the toll n schlep
they had 3 in stock yesterday, looks sold out now.

had 463 hrs which seemed high, but was less than my buddies cx which he had for less than 6 months.
seems fine, did lose hdmi sync which needed a hard reboot after fw update.
keeping my a80j order from GT and seeing how they stack up...

alright, I snatched it. upgrading from my 55 C6 (5-6k hours, no burn in).

so the 77 costs me $2k, purchased additional 3 yr MC warranty with screen protection for $300, tossed in another $100 for delivery since I can't squeeze that giant inside my midsize SUV, total about $2500 plus change. (MC sells new 77 A1 for $2700+ btw for anyone who cares)

the MC extended warranty though, is of concern, its own document states:
https://60a99bedadae98078522-a9b6...3State.pdf
Television or personal computer monitor screen imperfections, including 'burn in' or burned CRT phosphor, caused by video games, prolonged display of one or more signal(s), or other abuse. All display products that are used in an application that requires continuous and/or business operation unless additional coverage is purchased.

though the wording "implies" that burn-in occurred under "normal TV viewing" condition would be applicable, as assured to me by the sales rep.

well, least I have 30-days to investigate the hell out of this beast to make any further decisions.
LG's idea of "standard viewing" is geared towards that of an ADD-riddled hummingbird hopped up on meth. Every time I read about how burn-in "doesn't exist" if you change content frequently, I can't help but think of the pig in Toy Story going around the horn with the remote. LMAO

I might power through a great game like Horizon, Portal, or God of War in a few days, putting in 16+ hours per day if I get lost in the wonder of some magical experience. As much as I love Aloy, Shell, and Kratos, I'm not keen on seeing how much health they have being superimposed over a sports score hours, days, weeks, or even years later.

While I'm sure permanent burn-in is rare, I have seen it first-hand and can say it is not the lie some claim it to be...unlike the cake.

It's absolutely a technical possibility. YMMV as we like to say. My only anecdotal data point I can offer is the 10XXX hrs on my B8 with zero permanent image retention. I get plenty of temporary retention from things like fire TV menu tiles but I never see anything stick around past a few seconds. I can only imagine panel tech and software have gotten better since my B8 so for myuse case it's a non-issue. For you, maybe not!

You gotta be nuts to spend 2 grand on anything with a 90 day warranty.

If we could eliminate all of the burn-in fear mongering and rebuttal comments from every OLED thread, we would be left with just 6 comments on every thread:

1. Wow, great deal. I've been waiting for this deal.

2. Not a great deal because a friend of a friend saw a guy on Reddit who got one on Verde Digit for $50 less about 6 months ago.

3. Why isn't the [insert any number] size on sale?

4. It'll be cheaper 1 year from now, so I'm waiting.

5. My living room is actually a tanning bed, so I can't do OLED. It's not bright enough.

6. What's Verde Digit?

i just decided to order a openbox one instead of the refurbished. You think its a wise decision?
Also buying with citi costco card should give you additional 2years warranty, right?

I'm banking on that, but the fine print on the card says it doesn't apply to items w/o a manufacturer warranty. This does have *A* warranty but it'll probably just depend on the manager if/when you have to file a claim. you'll want to save whatever warranty paperwork you do find.

so my experience with costco was great back in the amex days (had a motor replaced in my dryer). Just called them with the situation/synopsis, got a quote and forwarded it to amex without having to prepay reimburse or anything. I have not tested citi since the move to visa, but may want to check over in avsforum for people's experiences there.

I've had two laptops reimbursed in two years because the batteries swelled in the cases. In both instance the manuf couldn't or didn't provide a replacement battery to they refunded the purchase price. This is with the citi visa card. I believe the attempt is to repair before reimburse the purchase price, and I dunno how the policy applies to open box items.

indeed. Probably worth at least a call to at least see what the CS rep says coverage will entail for refurb/open box etc items
