Our research indicates that this offer (Kreg K5 Pocket-Hole Jig Kit) is $44.01 lower (28% savings) than the next best available price from a reputable merchant with prices starting from $159
And I always thought you had to make a cross-cut station from scratch. I'd buy this at the full price $60.
I feel like if you're a hobbyist woodworker working with a table saw, it's kind of a right of passage to make a crosscut sled. If you're a contractor or shop you probably are going for fast and now, which this fits the bill for. People do I guess prioritize their time differently and may want to just get out in the shop making things instead of shop tools.

These days, you can spend $50 just in the wood to build a sled though. This one is a circular saw sled which seems a bit dumb to me.
Can someone tell me what these do? I'm trying to get into woodworking and don't know if these are things that wood be great to have later down the line or are niche in wouldworking. Thanks.

Crosscut jig is for making clean and fast 90 and 45 cuts across boards with a push saw. Pockethole jig makes pocket holes with a drill to for shelves and cabinets.
The type of woodworking you do influences tools you may need. Hand tool and purists do not like them. These are good for beginners and people who want to make things fast. But if you want things to last decades or longer traditional joinery or dominos are the way to go
If you do enough projects and save scraps, there is likely enough in the bin to make one for free
I made my own using some scraps but I'm thinking of picking up the crosscut here anyway because I felt like redoing mine to add some clamp channels but this is making me feel lazy since they are already built in and clamps included. Mine isn't bad, it's square and gets the job done. I used a parts of a bedframe I found on the street lol. BUT had to cut a small piece once and couldnt hold it down tight enough and it wobbled and kicked back. Didn't think I needed the clamps until that moment haha.

Have you tried toggle clamps? I have seen people attach them to a piece of scrap and screw it to the sled. The purposes are for small and thin pieces or repeatability

If you need to cut miters for picture frames this is a great alternative to a miter saw.
