Other than the CPU and display, is the Intel i7 deal the same as this Walmart 2k 4:3 product? - https://www.walmart.com/ip/Acer-S.../874015622

Looks like if you pay with your Amazon store card you're getting total 10 percent back as well… tempted to pull the trigger now.

I need a 14" (or smaller) PC with a decent computing power as a travel PC. I also do not want to pay a lot. This product nearly fits the bill, except for the soldered non-expandable memory. I know that even 8GB can do a lot, but I am always nervous about being limited to the current configuration in components like the RAM.

While that is reasonable, as time goes on and laptops keep getting slimmer it's going to get even harder to find that.

If it only had 16GB of RAM...
Seriously, why beef up the rest of the machine and leave it with a paltry 8GB? Have these manufacturers never used Win10 with Chrome open before? It's like selling a decked out mountain bike with fixed gears...

If you have a local Microcenter consider this:

https://www.microcenter.com/produ...tate_Drive

I got mine on sale for $499 and it is a bad ass little travel laptop. And the MX450 plays 1080p games surprisingly well. Only real downers are the soldered ram and the heat output is massive when gaming.
Even at current price of $599 it's not bad, but consider waiting for the sale price to come back. I will be upgrading the 256gb nvme with a 1tb at some point, but honestly I was shocked how many games I could install on the 256gb. Also I use a microsd card to store movies, music and mame to not soak up nvme space.

The battery is 4 vs 3 cell. It is a bit smaller .5" in height and lighter .3 lb. It also has two USB A V3 not 1 and 1 USB A V2..

The soldered memory is far faster than SODIMM. It is LPDDRX on both of them. 4266 not 3200. So if you get upgradable memory with a different brand it will be slower memory.

So I can see why some would be willing to pay $360 more for it.
ROFL. LPDDRX is 1/2 bus width of DDR4. It's 4266 mhz at 32 bit channels vs 3200hz at 64 bit channels. The tech advice on SD get worse by the day.

If the specs on that page are accurate, your laptop weights almost 5 lbs, which puts it in a very different class than this one.

Sorry but you are just wrong. LPDDR4x does quad channel so it is much faster. You are right about 32 vs 64 but reality is it is 2*32 vs 64. DDR4 is dual channel.

There are two memory controllers in the CPU. Each can handle 1 64 bit DDR4 or 2 32bit LPDDR4x.

Now not positive they did 4 channels but they most likely did.

The main purpose is not for it to be faster but to use less power. It is .6V vs 1.2V. Far more energy efficient. I am not the least bit sure it would be much faster in real use. I doubt you would notice the difference. But it is unlikely it would be slower.

Quad channels lpddr4x is still a rarity. There's a few XPS laptop out there with it but a large majority of budget laptop are not on quad channels. This is laptop isn't.

Nice deal. There are very rare laptops at this price range have hdmi2.0 port and thunderbolt that support 4k@60Hz on an external 4k monitor.
Does this have thunderbolt?

LPDDR4x is a rarity I was surprised to see it in this one. I had read about it in the CPU's improvement. Wondered why they were soldering. But only the soldered RAM is this fast.

Not sure how you know it does not do quad. I would love to see your proof. The article I read indicated they would all do quad. The performance app would show dual because of the two memory controllers. Dual memory controllers but each doing dual channel.

This is the article that led me to the other article I posted.
