Never owned one of these but does this have any advantages over a Roku stick that's half the price?
It doesn't suck.

I've tried all the cheap knockoffs - Roku, Fire Sticks, TIVO Stream etc.

Crashing, low stream bitrate and quality, apps not optimized, lag, you get what you pay for.

If you have an iPhone absolutely. Personally, I can't stand using any other device. The Apple TV is so much better than all the others. You're limited to the App Store of course, so no sideloading. The interface may take some getting used to, but everything works so much better and quicker than other devices.

Wow, great deal. I got this for Christmas last year and love it. It displaced my Roku Ultra.

The remote is a little quirky, but it works. I do recommend a case for it, like this one [amazon.com]. The leash and case makes it easier to grip, and harder to lose the remote in the couch.
I lost my remote and couldn't find it and have been using iPhone as remote... bought this one so can use the same remote for both

If you are in the apple ecosystem it is a great choice. Convenience is the reason people buy this. Control everything from your mobile or tablet. Use/Make this as a Home Hub. Connect your air-pods seamlessly. But if you are in Google/Android ecosystem, this is not going to add any value than other streaming devices except for 1. Apple Tv never slows down over the year like other streaming devices.

We have two 5th generation and -now- three 4th generation Apple TVs in the house.. The family still favors the old remote; I'm impartial. So, it doesn't "suck" for everyone.
As someone who hasn't owned an Apple TV, seems like a good price point to get in and try it out. Since I've never used any of the remotes, I won't know the difference.

in for 1!!!, minimal reasons to upgrade ATV 2021 version unless HDR video at 60fps, updated networking standards, Thread support, or a 2nd generation Siri Remote is important to you. Also, no need ATV 2021 if you only use it for 4K 60Hz TV with HDMI 2.0........... A10X chip ATV 4K is way better than any Raku 4K or Mibox 4K in the market.

THX!!!

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

Just to clarify, if this is 4K than its first generation not fourth. The first 4K Apple TV came out in 2017. The second generation 4K Apple TV came out in April 2021.

The fourth generation Apple TV is HD, not 4K, which came out in 2015.

Thanks OP for the SD!.

Identify your Apple TV model [apple.com]

Wanna jump on this but afraid Apple will pull one of their stunts were the 2017 model will not keep up with the 2021 model.

For those on the fence this link shows the differences between 2017 & 2021:

the new one isn't "great" either
The new remote is horrendously over engineered. I had to disable all haptic features just so I could navigate through the Home Screen. Trying to pause and rewind will cause you, the remote, and the TV to feverishly spin into an orbit simultaneously.

This remote is just fine.
