Some reference for people about when these will sell out. We've been getting these for our kids since 2017.

Sell out dates:
2017: 12/17
2018: 12/19
2019: LoL this year was a stinker IMO. We skipped this year and I think many other parents did too. They kept sending urgent emails to "buy now almost gone!", way more than usual. But I don't think ever actually sold out.
2020: 12/3 - Was a good toy year
2021 Prediction: early Dec. Jets and nesting toys are usually hot sellers and this has both. While no one knows, I don't think you have to rush on this and probably could wait till just before black friday and still be ok. After that though could be gone.


They are quality (if also pricy) toys. 2 trucks every year, beat to hell. They all still work perfect. Only thing I hate is they dont have an auto off (lots of leaving the lights on, walking away to play with other hot new christmas toy and draining brand new batteries).

Hess used to be a gas station business that sold it's own themed toy truck. It was an easy gift for kids, because you could get it at any Hess station, and it was right there next to the register whenever you bought gas (as if reminding you that Billy's birthday is tomorrow). They'd roll out a new truck every year or two.

The iconic toy was an staple under American Christmas trees from the late 60s to the early 90s. The only reason they're sold now is for nostalgia though.

Can't believe there's people that haven't heard of these. I got them every year from my grandmother and now she gets them for my kids. Hess almost did away with these but thankfully, they listened to the people. Well made compared to crap on Walmart shelves.

My kid got three of these as hand me downs from a cousin. They looked new. Battery hogs. One is a helicopter with a spinning rotor. All very large. Never heard of them before. You can pick older ones off eBay for less. I don't think your typical "iPad" kids of today will find much interest in these today.

Was it just me, or wasn't it extremely satisfying to flip the switch to turn on the lights? I remember one year they had a police cruiser with flashing lights on the roof. The sirens were wicked loud but then again maybe because my ears were younger..

I have almost every truck since 1990 sans 92, and 2000. These will be toys I play with with my kids. Every single truck/plane/etc still is fully functional. Even ones that I've had battery acid leak into, just a quick toothbrush cleanup on the battery terminals and it's back up and running. Sure there is nostalgia at play for me, but I've showed these to friends that never seen them before and they were blown away. I'll try to buy one every year
