In the last 2 years there were, what, 5 free add a line deals, at least 2 BOGO line deals, at least one 50% off add a line promo. . .as well as free 3rd line free on account setup and if you timed such perfectly there was also 20% account hookup to boot.
Before you make such a bold statement, you should first state what your service cost is per month per line, but also what that monthly cost per line would be if you added a flagship phone (trade in cost or value included).
I have 9 lines. My monthly cost (to keep things rounded) is say $10 per month per line of Magenta Max for those lines that I had a 2 year old flagship phone for trade in to keep me on the flagship phone gravy train. That includes the cost of the phone plus the cost of Magenta Max for that line. Taxes included.
I have a few lines that I did BYOD on (and got $300 costco BYOD cards for but I'm not including that into this) and on those lines for the next two years the average monthly cost per line is roughly $17 per line to have flagship phone plus Magenta Max ($10 service plus $7 a month for the cost of an S9 trade donor phone). Taxes included.
But again that $300 BYOD more than covers the $7 monthly x 24. . .so it's really the same $10 a month a line total as above.
To put it into perspective. . .I have a better deal now than I did with 2 years free of the 5 line BYOD Free Sprint service. And my service, at least for me here, is better with TMO than with ATT or VZW. They don't want to touch the suburbs anytime soon here.
Here's my breakdown:
$150 - DP due today ($900-$150 total mo $31.25=$750÷24)
$7 - shipping
$74 - est. taxes
=$231 Up Front Cost
-$750 - $31.25x24 due monthly
-$231 Up Front Cost
+$825 Actual Recurring Bill Credit ($31.25+$3.13 extra = $34.38x24)
+$75 One-time bill credit (2 cycles)
= -$81.11 TOTAL actual out of pocket cost after 24 months
Note: Most numbers are rounded off for simplicity.
I hope my math helps out someone because their numbers are kind of confusing and is not showing out of pocket cost for people already with the Max plan.
Oh & yes, you save the $30 upgrade for doing it online.
BTW, you can usually figure out a way to trade in a flagship phone after one year, and basically replace it with the newer flagship for free after bill credits
GO to TMO online, click on plans, and click on either 55+ or Military etc. Magenta plans (if you qualify) or Magenta plans in general to get a ballpark. Magenta get's roughly half the trade in credits of Magenta Max plans for this and similar trade in credit deals. Not being a smart arse, but there are too many variables to answer. . .

*They matched Verizon offer which was 350 vice 300 for LG G8 trade in. I received $50 credit.
*I was told that since I'm paying tax up front on phone, supposedly I won't be taxed on the monthly bill payments. So for 899 pro I paid downpayment of 149 +45 tax.
*I also received trade in value for the LG G8 (received after I get the pro and mail in my phone). This was only $15.
*I wanted the 256gb pro - which isn't available yet, but I'm signed up to be notified when in stock. Was told they would do an exchange for the128gb when that happens. Still not sure how this will work but this is what I was told.
Have been post paid simple choice for 10+ years
Otherwise, seems like all those jumping on flagships every year at launch would be losing out on a ton of credits (and griping about it).
