If you want to do any high heat wok cooking do yourself a favor and get a carbon steel wok
I bought the Sur La Table Professional Carbon Steel Wok and love it ! I own nonstick and a Stainless Steel wok. You really need to get a carbon steel wok to get the high heat and the flavor it gives to stir fry. My other woks don't get any use anymore after buying the real deal carbon wok. My fried rice and Lo Mein taste just like from the restaurant now. Bought it on April 5 for $31.90 free shipping. So might want to wait for it to go on sale again.

Edited due to feedback to take it down a notch.
Seems a bad idea. Nonstick cookware is not a good idea in my opinion for high temps. I have experienced very unpleasant fumes, causing me to tear up and cough.

Woks are best used at high temps. The wok shape has a small area of contact, so not good as a saute pan. I agree with the other poster to get carbon steel (and season it properly). It will be nonstick and withstand high temps.

And the difference between the Hexclad and this is night and day. The Hexclad is THICK stainless steel with a non stick coating while this one is pretty thin and light.
Being thick is not good. Real Chinese woks are thin for a reason. First, the hot spots are helpful in stir frying. Second, you need the thermal responsiveness with thin cookware. That's why cast iron isn't appropriate for true stir frying.

It's an amazing deal. Analon/Meyers is a top reputable cookware maker and the lid itself can cost as much as $20. Too bad I have to pass on it because it's not induction capable.

Wanted to add that this is a $40.00 Wok. I have always paid $29.99 in the past.

The fact that Macy's states this is normally $159.99 IS BULLSHIT. That is like saying the normal price of CHEAP 55" TV is $1,500.00 and it is now on sale for $450 (when it has sold for $299.99 in the past)

This is why so many people hate Macy's... their regular price is FULL OF... you know what.
Actually, Macy's may indeed charge $159 after the sale is over. My experience with them is that items often do return to their stated regular price after a sale is over. You can argue that the regular price is too high, but that doesn't make it untrue.

As for paying $29.99 in the past, care to provide proof with a link? Past sales often show up in searches and I certainly didn't find such a deal.

Your assessment that this is a $40 wok is simply wrong. Amazon sells the gray version of this wok for $116. Analon/Meyers is a top maker of quality cookware and a lid alone can cost $20. I'd say that this is at least a $70 wok at market value.

I used to get these as cheap replacements from Macy's whenever they go on sale for around $20+. Each lasted me around 3 months before the nonstick coating peeled off. Went through a like 5 within 2 yrs until I switched over to a more decent one from Costco ($200+).

You missed my point. Natgas cooking is like running a car inside your house. Look it up. You're burning hydrocarbons inside your house.
Maybe I missed your point because that has nothing to do with the smoke and fumes from overheated nonstick coatings I'm describing. I still am much happier cooking with gas than electricity. I won't be switching. Thanks for elaborating.

I guess you are just trying to point out that it's like blue on black, but I don't suffer ill effects at all on a regular basis. Health and oxygen levels are great across the board, knock on wood.
I guess I get enough ventilation and fresh air in my home to offset that use of my stove which TBH is supplemented by my air fryer and microwave frequently.

I agree that carbon steel is likely the way to go with a wok; I have cast iron, and it works very well. I would avoid this like the plague not only because of temperature issues but also because stir frying requires a lot of scraping motion that may damage it.

I ended up walking into the Wok Shop in SF Chinatown. $43 out the door with a free wooden spatula. The place has been ran by Jane for 50+ years. I picked up this one: https://wokshop.stores.yahoo.net/...wsiha.html. It's made locally in Hayward, CA and the wooden handle is made in Maine. Funny thing was that they sold out of handles earlier this week but were able to get me one. Jane is a riot and a relic of old school Chinatown. If anyone is in the Bay Area, definitely recommend checking out the Wok Shop.

I believe Macy's is still making profit at $30.00. Your email even stated that the MSR should be around $70.00.

This Wok is not even listed as a top non stick wok.

BUT BUT BUT I HAVE REAL WORLD EXPERICANCE OF USING THIS EXACT WoK DAILY FOR OVER FOUR YEARS AND I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT. And I stopped using this wok and now use a HexClad.

I got my HexClad about 8 months ago... and I have purchased this wok about 8 months before that (MY FOUTH ONE). When I saw the HexClad go on sale I jumped.

Now you want me to find the link to this deal at $30.00 from 1.5 years ago? WHY... WHO CARES?

No real Chinese wok has a long handle and the Chinese stir fry daily. I actually bought a wok with a long handle as a gift for a Chinese friend and she hates the handle. Of course, real Chinese woks have a round bottom and are placed over a fire ring, which makes them very maneuverable. But even with a flat bottom, my friend hates the handle.
uh, maybe a handle might not be traditional (not a wok historian), but every wok my parents have ever owned and also the ones I've seen in restaurants all had handles.

I have used this wok for at least 5+ yrs, not daily but enough since it was one of my favs. So you're complaining that 4 yrs at $30 bucks is not good? Big Grin I bet you spend more money on coffee or soda weekly than this wok.

I like mines, it does the job less than $10/year.

I highly recommend using a carbon steel wok over the Teflon as the carbon steel will last for years. Teflon woks will eventually lose their non-stick capability. You can easily season the carbon steel wok so that it becomes non-stick. I found out that using flaxseed oil works beautifully to create the non-stick surface just like it does on a cast iron pan. To get the wok hei flavor, you ideally want to use a burner that heats the wok high enough to stir fry and give it that Chinese restaurant flavor. Kenji has a video on the 3 types of outdoor burners that he's tried out and he recommends the PowerFlamer 160. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpoSvprBJpE . Here's the link to the PowerFlamer that he recommends: http://outdoorstirfry.com/product...lead-time/
