I've had a 57" polaroid tripod for the past 10 years that I bring on vacations. I was looking for something new because it's showing its age, but this doesn't appear to have a hook for stabilizing in windy conditions.
yep... these are utter garbage. not wort it for free - especially given how inexpensive much better ones are.
If you've got a lead on a decent one, or some recommendations, I'll take it. I've been using the same tripod for like 15 years. It's beat up (mostly one or two little plastic knobs are cracking/ed), but it's small and light and made of aluminum, and is great to travel with--haven't been bothered to find a replacement to be honest.

Now days there's lots of them - these are notoriously unstable and extremely flimsy, especially the low end ones like this. The problem of course is the value of what you're putting on top of it! Part of any recommendation would be knowing what you're using it for - are you using it to pan video? The type of head you attach to the tripod legs might differ if you want something that pans well... and how often you use it. I bought one of these to put a small camera on it for video (no panning) - but it was so unstable and wobbly I knew it would be destroyed in to time.
There are lots of cheap tripods out there now days (thank china) - that although are mediocre, they're still much more stable than this one... I just looked on SD for recent deals, there usually are some but not seeing much - I'm wondering how much the supply chain problems are limiting good deals at the moment. So maybe the pricing is different than last time I looked a few years ago when deals were popping up like crazy on SD... maybe you could go somewhere to look where you could find a cheaper one that is more stable. I linked one below - but it might not be what you want if you're using it for video and want a panning head... these type tend to be much more stable and sturdy - I'm not necessarily recommending this exact one, just this type. Also consider buying used - people buy half way decent ones all the time and don't use them much then sell them... anyway, sorry for the long response!
