If the Airpods max were $300 MSRP they'd be an interesting competitive headphone option. But priced the way they are limits any interest in them to a very specific set of customers that enjoy the apple ecosystem for convenience or fashion reasons, and aren't concerned with price. It's a different market than someone looking for good value for quality headphones.
So this sale is a good price for Airpods max, but it's not a good price for a pair of headphones, if that makes sense.
The feature set on the Maxes on they own, sets them apart. The clarity in the mids, surround sound (spatial audio) are much better. The transparency mode… it's almost nonexistent in the XM4s vs the Maxes.
Every once and awhile I like to go on walks with headphones. I would prefer to wear the XM4s on walks, they are lighter. But I can not hear my surroundings.

I dont use the little bra case.
I dont care who you are, comparing 50 dollar jbl's to any 300+ dollar headphones is crazy and saying they are equal or better. got to be real with comparisons.

But yes, the head size, weight tolerance and usage varies among individuals. So I don't go about dumping on these. But these sure are not for me and absolutely NOT worth my every penny even at half the price.
They do get heavy, but nothing average person can't handle for few hours at a time. Imo

Its better than the XM4, but not 500 dollars good either.
Honestly if these were 300-400 MSRP, I'd scoop these up pretty fast
