Was really tempted to upgrade my non-smart num pad combination deadbolt, but after reading the reviews, seems I will hold off.

Problems:
1. Connection issues: mostly takes too long or won't connect at all. Works sometimes, other times not at all
2. Phone app sometimes says deadbolt is jammed, but it is not
3. Inaccurate app: door is locked, but app says it's unlocked (or vice Versa), so the app won't do anything
4. Unreliable remote lock/unlock: because of the app's inaccuracy, if you forget to lock your door when you have left the house, you check the app to lock it, and it says it locked it, but it actually didn't. Huge problem.
5. Sending someone a temporary e-key is a huge, huge hassle
6. Router must be within range of the deadbolt. This might be why there are a ton of reliability issues and why problems in #1-4 above exists.

Super great price. Might be worth a try and see if you get a good unit. Maybe the app has gotten better as the top bad reviews are from 2017-2018. If you do buy it, read the review "Kevo Convert...the good, the bad, and the ugly" for really good instructions on how to correctly set it up.

I think that is the issue with most of them. I'm trying to get my parents to upgrade to just the keypad deadbolt (with key).

Yeah I have the Kwikset 10 button keypad one and it's great. The 4x AA batteries last about a year or more and beeps at you when batteries are low. I've used my physical keys one time in the last year, and that's because I didn't want to wake my sleeping son with the noise of the motor. I even have different codes for different family members and a one time use code just waiting for the right situation to use.

I had an August and it was so spotty and unreliable despite multiple troubleshooting. A lock needs to be 100% reliable.

We went with a keypad one from Kwikset which still has a key on it. Batteries have lasted a year already without being changed, 100% reliable. Kids have their own code, can make temporary codes if needed.

Agree. Even the Halo we have on the front door is mediocre at best. We like the Powerbolt on the garage door a lot better.

It's tempting. I tend to take old reviews with a grain of salt. I've also had a Kwikset keypad with the same rear as this and know that it's a big of a battery hog on anything other than the Lithium batteries (1-3 months on NiMH/Alkaline vs 12+months on Lithium for me).

Another issue is door alignment. Too many newer houses are just slapped together so poorly, so you've got either a bad install or there is a settling issue, so your door latch doesn't engage properly so that you've got to pull on the door to engage the deadbolt.

The price is alright, but I'm almost just tempted to just go ahead and upgrade to the full unit w/keypad. It seems like such a bigger convenience to text someone a doorcode vs an e-key. The added issue of required wifi is big as well. A bad firmware update or ISP or power issue isn't entirely uncommon in my area (PNW) and is generally not resolvable by remoting in. Maybe the big players will start throwing a fingerprint reader on their stuff, I've seen one on display in Home Depot but its not from a brand that I'm familiar with.

I can attest to how shoddy Kevo is. I owned the 2nd gen and it lasted a little over a year. WIthin that year, I've had numerous connectivity issues ranging from it not detecting my phone, to just not unlocking at all. The concept was good, but in reality, the product was terrible. I still use it now, but as a non-smart lock, as I'm too lazy to uninstall it and use something else :-D

I have the zigbee smart lock conversion kit that looks identical to this. It works pretty good. The hardware is really adaptable to many brands. But I don't think I'd want a wifi cloud service for my doors.

I have this lock for 3 years. It keep requiring new batteries. I bought a rechargeable set that I keep changing almost every 2-3 weeks. It does not connect directly to wife. You will need to buy a hub. I bought a Samsung hub to make it work remotely.
I don't like it much but it goes with my door existing lock color.
It does eats up batteries

If it doesn't connect to your wife, maybe try counselling? ☺️
