Being an HVAC engineer expert and run my own business offering design services, this thread was fun and hilarious to read.

Guys, heatpumps take heat from outside to inside, or from inside to outside. They MOVE heat, aka they pump the heat. Hence Heatpump.

Nextt, Fog would not prevent this from working. Would probably transfer heat better due to higher humidity, but ultimately might decay the coil if a coastal region.

These units are fine, and I recently got one for my buddy to install for himself. However, eventually these linesets, not being brazed in will leak. Probably a few years down the road if done right, but they leak very slowly. A brazed connection is essentially metal melting the connection point closed off so no leaks if done right.

Next, if you oversize these, they wont dehumidify because when they slo down their capacity, the coil gets less cold. it takes a cold coil to dehumidify inside, so right sizing is important.

These are not meant to be data room units, and if its used in some mining operation, there should have been calculations to say that there is X amount of heat dissipation in watts from these GPus, and figure up what that load looks like and size accordingly. Of course with none of that running and 18K in a 10x12 room is WAY too big.

I actually wanna add one to my own garage but getting a power circuit run is gonna be a pain as my panel is full up, and my basement subpanel is almost full as well.

I have this, works well in my garage. I paid $1100 in May 2019. Yikes at current pricing.

I installed the 24k unit last time this went on sale. The whole unit was very well put together, with clear and concise directions. Because I ran it from inside a room, through a garage, and to the outside I had to buy some small things like another wall sleeve, straps to hold the lines, a finishing gutter cover and a wall mount for outside.

I think my install was quite a bit more involved than a lot of installs would normally be since I had to core through brick and run new conduit from my panel. For the most part the kit will have most, if not all of what you need. Check both boxes you get for damages, I got a unit from HD first that was half crushed, the unit I got from Costco had the fan cover bashed in a bit but I hammered it back out with a mallet and block. Too much trouble to return and wait for another unit to ship, and I can't see the damage now. Don't get halfway through your install and open the next box and see an issue!

Performance is great, it's very quiet and heats and cools AWESOME. I quickly got the house down to 65 degrees during the heat wave, and now use it nightly to keep the house comfortable. The air it puts out feels nice, I'm not sure how to describe it but it's different than air out of my vents from the furnace.

I'd definitely recommend these units though, definitely my favorite upgrade to my house.

Why not use one that isn't "mr cool" brand and regularly this price?

Because you get a one year warranty only vs. the Costco unit where you get 5 years on parts and 7 years of warranty on the compressor. Big difference in my opinion.

I hope you aren't blaming the unit for not keeping the room cool while you're running what is essentially a big heater (100 GPUs?) in it non-stop. This should handle 120 sq ft like nothing, but that's a serious rig working against it. What are you still mining on GPUs?
Seriously, at this point the key is air exchange, rather than trying to cool the air in the room. Unless you live in the desert, you should be able to pull in fresh air cooler than that and just keep pushing the hot air out.

Is your garage insulated? all the walls and are your garage doors insulated? Thanks!
If it helps you, I have a 20x20x12'H garage with insulated walls and garage doors, dark charcoal roof and exposed ceiling in Southern California and 18k is good for 95% of the days. The 100+ degree days you need to pre-cool for 1-2 hours in the morning and you'll be comfortable inside.
It was 90 today and I didn't precool and it was cold in my garage.
I did this because I had an engineer look at the possibility of adding insulation to the roof. To reinforce it to add insulation, additional strips so drywall won't sag it was cheaper just to upsize the AC from 12k recommended to 18k. If I were to do it again I would probably do the next size up.

I am thinking about doing that to my garage. how did you insulate your garage doors? or did you buy a special door that is insulated? also, did you have to rip any sheetrock off the walls and insulate them to get outside walls to be insulated?

I'd buy an off brand $600-700 they're also DIY precharged, maybe not as efficient, but it'll be long before you pay $700 of the difference this costs, and thats if its 120V. I installed my own but had a guy from facebook/CL install one for my uncle at likr $600 and $100 to install.

It's just one hole in the wall for the lineset and one hole to get to a power line. It's kind of criminal they charge more than several hundred to install this. Where you put it and what power you have close to the unit does help make it easier/harder depending on the situation.

Menards unit is higher SEER, works down to 5 degrees, less money, and is warranted for self install.

It comes on a pallet, but if you remove the outer cardboard, there are 6 smaller boxes inside that are easy to handle.

I've installed a bunch of them for myself and friends. Very quiet.

Amazon has best deal on kit to conceal lines and mount the heat exchanger
What's the model number, your link doesn't work. *Nvm the Denali Aire units.

Question about the tubing - how many feet is the tubing? I want to install upstairs and place compressor downstairs. If there's not enough tubing how would you extend it?

How big is your garage and where are you located? Trying to get an idea if I'll run into the same issue.
I have this one in a 25x25 insulated shop with 8ft ceilings, southern georgia. Been great over the last 1.5 years.

How is this mostly as a dehumidifier? My current dehumidifier heats up the basement too much in the summer, so want something to cool ans dry it.

I installed this in my 2 car garage, in dry mode it is very effective, and will drop the temp a few degrees in the process.

If you're going to put the work in to install, I'd use Mitsubishi. They are top quality.

Mini split units cool and dry. They basically air condition the air. They would release no heat into the room.

You folks asking about whether it will cool your room need to use loadcalc. Totally depends on climate and how well your house is insulated.
