All the above brands will do the job for the casual wearer. I'd throw in REI, EMS, MEC, and First Ascent(Eddie Bauer) as well.

- 650 vs 600 fill power
- 3 zippered pockets vs 2
- 2 interior pockets vs none
Just a suggestion. I like Mountain Hardware (Columbia) apparel, but the Costco is half the price ($35) and the quality is just as good, if not better.
Some key reviews on your assumed quality on this particular garment:
• "Got a rip the first day I wore it. Have been using MH products for years, totally bummed." -Moosejaw review
• "The issue I have is there are only two pockets at your waist. Not chest pocket, not inside pockets!" -Amazon review
• "This jacket was a disappointment. The fit was weird, it was short and wide which looks absolutely ridiculous" -Amazon review
• "Sadly, this jacket is far too lightweight and flimsy. I wish Mountain Hardware would revisit the quality and design of their down jackets from 15 or so years ago." -REI review
• "I had a 500-fill jacket previously like this one. Bought it about 15 years+ from Mountain Hardware. This new jacket seems like it's not made as well. Feels very cheap. The older jacket seemed warmer even though the fill was less." -REI review
As another poster in this thread commented (Post #23), not all MH product is great based solely on the brand. This specific jacket is their lower tier/entry level shell. I've provided a jacket/shell that is not only comparable, less costly and packs better real world features. That's what the slickdeals of yore was all about. Not just finding a discount, but offering alternatives for the thrifty and smart minded.

I received this Mountain Hardware jacket today. I put it on and took it off a dozen times. Besides noticing a significant amount of feathers already dropping from the jacket (as other reviews have mentioned), the Gerry is superior for my needs. It has more standard features than the MH jacket. Not only more pockets (two with heat warming liner pockets) to secure items, but elastic sleeve cuffs. Also, important to note the color of the MH jacket is more grey/navy blue.
As I suspected, the MH jacket very much feels entry level from their other down jackets. Someone else mentioned "flex" for activities. There is no stretch or flex in this jacket. There are no extra features making it better than the Gerry/Costco jacket. And the quality of the Mountain Hardware jacket surely does not command double the cost. Fortunately, I paid with PayPal so they will reimburse me the unavoidable return shipping ($6) back to MH.
