I've been using PCs/gaming for 25+ years and never used thunderbolt anything. I don't think as many people "need" it as much as everyone talks about… it's cool to have, but I'd guess that most people that buy computers/laptops don't even know what it is or care.
This is a nicely spec'd laptop and I don't understand the downvotes…
There is none. Don't just make up stuffs because long time back one of your Lenovo laptops, which you don't know any details about, got a broken hinge.
This a a pretty decent screen. It's low power also.
The intel Xe/iGPUs can decode at a pretty low energy usage
so a nice combo (with the screen 100% sRGB) for people who do a lot of streaming.
And there's a LOT of those out there.
And, intels LOVE the high speed soldered RAM.
In many applications this chip performs ~roughly on par with i7-1185 chips.
If performance is the priority then yes. But with Ryzen, you'll loose Thunderbolt and a lot of people do need that for various purpose, not just external GPU.

Just because you don't use it doesn't mean nobody does. People do use for many reasons and it's a huge plus to have in any laptop.

I bought and returned this a long while back. Paid about this price or a bit less.
I do think its a good laptop overall, but I settled on a much better (and pricier) one.
At the time, it had BT mouse lag...which was annoying to unusable. I thought it was Lenovo specific issue, but it turns out it is an Intel Evo issue. Dells, HPs, lots of laptops had it and some still do.
The brightness scaling on this lenovo is bizarre. It goes to full dark at 50% on the Windows slider. Basically, you use it at full brightness or 2 clicks down at most. Its maybe not a big deal, but it sort of sucked not being able to have more fine tuned brightness levels.
Its max brightness also was insufficient for my occasional use cases. Anyone should know what they need ahead of time anyway. I gave it a shot because it does/did have good specs for the price.
The resolution is indeed overkill for all but the most eagle eyed user.
Nonetheless I do think its a good deal at this price, particularly if they've solved the brightness and BT bugs.

All-aluminum for those that care.

What more can you ask for?
Besides a ryzen 7/9 chip. 😉

Would've definitely bagged it if it was equipped with a touchscreen.

Thinkbooks are more budget friendly but the build quality isn't too shabby.

I'd need glasses an inch thick to use this laptop
