This is a very quiet unit, and has good reviews. I have one and it is the best windows AC that I have used. The 8000 BTU unit normally sells for $360 or more. The 12000 BTU model has dropped to $266, which is way below the previous low of $430 according to CCC. Compared to the normal $470 price tag for the 12000 BTU unit, this is a saving of >$200.

There are still some units in stock at the moment. Not sure how long this price can last.

I picked this up during the previous Lowes deal. Blows your mind when compared to regular window units. Well worth it!

What's the advantage? My fiirst thought was that It still blocks the window.

Also it doesn't attach to the sliding window frame for stability like most window A/Cs, so you can still open the window with it installed. And not only is the A/C itself quiet, but since the indoor and outdoor sections are separate, it doesn't let in significant outside noise either.

Uses inverter technology. Way more energy efficient than traditional AC unit. Highest energy star rating. You can also control remotely.

Yeah, I guess I should have been more specific: I was referring to the U-shape. Which I still can't really see as all that valuable. I do see the point of a saddle-shape, but those are more expensive.

The U allows you to close the window almost all the way, which blocks more noise; also the small connection between the outside and inside portion allow almost no outside noise to travel through the unit.

The saddle shape hangs down so if you have windows closer to the ground they won't work because of how they sit.

These aren't saddle shaped, though; they're U shaped. And most windows aren't that close to the ground. Figure you'll need about a foot underneath.

Without knowing how they work, they probably use a pump to get the evaporator condensate water outside, which could be a problem. But at least they don't block the window so badly, which makes me at least think about paying the premium. It's still cheaper and neater than a mini-split.
I actually have central air in the house, but my electric bill has gone way down since I stopped trying to cool the entire house when we only use a couple of rooms at a time.
