Decent desktop board. It skimps hard on VRMs but has ok audio, SPDIF, and lots of USB ports. The ASRock B550m is $10 less on Newegg for another few hours, and is a better board at this tier imo.

I'm shopping for a new mobo for my son. He has a Biostar 350 currently. How does this MSI compare? Looking at the amazon warehouse one for $108 that's available. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...UTF8&psc=1

MSI Gaming Plus B550 should be a pretty good board. It uses doubled International Rectifier voltage controllers, which MSI (and a few others) generally only use on their X570 stuff. I don't know anything about buying motherboards on warehouse though.

I've never bought the Gaming Plus model because it only ever dips down to around $140 on sale, while the next model up, the MSI B550 Tomahawk, dips down to $150 and is worth the extra $10.

All that said, if your son's computer isn't going to have a really big CPU and aftermarket cooling, the $100 board on this deal or the $90 ASRock B550 on sale on Newegg are probably better choices.

Thoughts on if going micro-atx w the Lian Li o11d mini case would be wise? Most people seem to go full ATX.

Why are people still buying AM4 for Zen 3 when 12th just launched and beats it significantly for cheaper?

I think they meant the 12th Gen Intel Alder Lake just came out which is considerably better than anything AMD has at the moment albeit AMD is coming out with a new Gen of processors in 2022.
