So? That guy is a professional and opens practically everything. Not all bikes require $300 locks.

The key to bike locks is to choose the appropriate amount of deterrent for the desirability of the bike and the theft risk of the place that it's going to be locked. For example, this lock on a run-of-the-mill bike in front of a suburban convenience store will be just fine.

Yeah, that's the problem. I can't find a lock I feel comfortable with for my $2000 bike. LOL

Expensive bikes probably shouldn't be locked up anywhere, except inside your garage.

I once left a several thousand dollar mountain bike with multiple U and cable locks on the car in a hotel parking lot overnight. It wasn't stolen, but a few hundred dollars of parts had been removed. Frustratingly, when I talked to a police officer the next day, he said that he saw the guy but figured he wouldn't be able to steal it because it was locked so well.

My only use for one is to stop for a coffee at my local coffee joint, which I do now, but I keep my eyes glued on the bike while I'm inside for the few minutes it takes to get a coffee. A lock would at least help me to feel a little more comfortable in those few minutes!

Though your bike may be pretty desirable, it sounds like a very low risk location. You probably only need to worry about opportunistic ride offs, not lock pickers/grinders/smashers. For that, an easy to carry cable should probably suffice. If I can't bring the bike into the business, I will often turn the bike upside down, clip my helmet through the spokes (and maybe around a pole), and leave it in the highest gear - all to deter and slow down any would be thieves.
