I've had nothing but issues with these cheap obd dongles. Only one I found worth buying was obdlink. Cheap ones rarely connect and lack functions. Not worth the money and hassle thinking its the apps
I have had 3 just like this one and a few of the blue ones over the years. Never had any issues with them.

What functions is this missing that the one you mention has? Honest question.

I can't imagine buying a $120 scanner when the $10 ones have been great for me.

Have one for a while now to carry in the glove box, Dash Command app on my iPhone works perfect. Works on all the Subarus I have tried it on, basic data not super in depth.

Bluetooth generic OBD model that has the same looking label here.

Works great with InCarDoc Android for reading engine codes, clearing check engine light, monitoring economy (ecomodder.com), logging, etc.

Generally a good device to have to figure out what's wrong in modern engines.

Eg latest emissions fault on mine already let me know where to look to find the broken sensor wires.

I use BT because it's lower power drain on the phone, leaves my wifi free if I want to connect to a hot spot. Some may prefer wifi to listen to music and calls over bt.

These long black readers work better for me than the super short blue models you'll see on eBay etc.

Daily Steals are behaving really shady lately (perhaps they always did).

I got DS's 'deal' on a Samsung wireless charger. It was 'new in box'. But after everyone bought them up, they sent an email that said it was new, but in no fuss packaging, then asked to confirm I still wanted it. Had link to new description. So I go there and notice it says 'no accessories'. I thought ok, that's shady. Looks like they might skimp out on the USB C cable that came in the original new box. Looks like they are selling it as new, then tricking us in to buying it without new packaging (not a big deal to me) or the usb c cable (not a big deal to me).

Then they send me only the charger pad, and nothing else, not even the charger. The thing is it usess a proprietory or very finicky charger. So none of my chargers worked. And I have a lot of chargers, charger fanatic. All bases covered, including PPS chargers that are very smart.

So basically they just sent a bunch of stuff that was unusable few to zero people, and cashed in on everyone who didn't spend half their life going through all the hoops and returning it. Other buyers said their charger came with scratches, or used, not working. I can't verify that, or if the one I got was new. Mine was not scratched, but did notice it did not have any new manufacture smell.

I returned mine, and they gave me my money back. Thing is it cost a lot of time and it was very stressful because they were clearly shady and I didn't know how it was going to turn out, as I kept pouring time, and mental energy to resolve the situation.

I recommend not to buy from them, unless it's completly un-ignorably a good deal, and you have all your bases covered (like pay with paypal, who I'm starting to trust less too, cough).

They are hustlers. You might have to enter a wrestling ring every purchase.

If you have a Ford vehicle, I recommend getting one of these dongles with an MS-CAN/HS-CAN switch, which will allow you to modify additional settings on the car with something like FORScan [forscan.org]. That being said, you don't need a switch just to read diagnostic codes.
What u talking bout?! What settings can you change? And why would u want to???

Skip this cheap OBD2 and get a BlueDriver. They can be had for $80 on sale, but mine has saved me and family members costly repairs by being able to diagnose current issues (even when the CEL is off) and find issues before they're bad enough to trip a light. Also infinitely helpful when buying a car from a stranger. They can clear lights, but they can't stop them from being read by my Bluedriver after a short test drive (and plus you'll see that they tried to hide something, which is a huge red flag as it is).
Bluedriver has excellent marketing that covers up the fact that it can't access anything but your engine diagnostic computer. That leaves behind 10,20, even 30 plus modules in a modern car that you won't get codes for. So you won't know why your transmission is acting funny or your HVAC isnt working. The Autel AP200 is a much better option.

There are hundreds of little things you can change, although nothing particularly life changing. Common things people like to change are enabling/disabling certain lights, beeps, and horn honks that happen automatically when you open the car door, for example.

For me personally, my favorite modification was to the number of lane-change blinks. By default, if I tapped the handle for the turn signals but didn't push it all the way, the turn signals would blink three times and then stop. Three blinks didn't feel long enough to make my intentions known to other drivers, so I upped it to seven blinks. I had previously asked the dealership to make this change for me since other people had success at their dealerships, but mine didn't know what the heck I was talking about.

Here's a random page that links to spreadsheets with options for different models: https://ohptools.com/blogs/news/l...th-forscan

Auhh ok, this is kinda cool. I also hate the 3 blinks when changing lanes. I thought you were changing putting your vehicle in beast mode at first 😁

I got the wifi version, and it's the least reliable connection of any device I have.

What app do you use it with? Seems like Torque Pro by Ian Hawkins is the most popular for the Android crowd. Are these easy to use and understand if you are not a car mechanic?

I bought this last time it was on sale. Just a heads up. It does NOT work with Forscan. Has a clone/knockoff ELM327 chip inside that won't work with it. For just reading codes and resetting CEL its fine but be warned their software sucks pretty bad, You can use CarScanner or InCarDoc instead which are better made apps.
Please tell me they understood the pun in their name when they called it Forscan.

Why do I need this? AutoZone does it for free with far more reliable instrument.

If you're asking this question you probably have to have them install your wiper blades too.
