Incorrect. Up until about a week ago, it was possible to apply 1 point to activate the discount and have the remaining balance paid by gift card balance. It just required that the card and shop with points be set to Apply by Default, then during checkout, changing the amount to be applied by points to 0.01, and the gift card balance would apply to the remainder automatically.
