Recently? A week-ish ago it was working for me, but it seemed to have stopped working late last week for me. Even with the Amex card and points set to Apply by Default, on checkout, the GC balance automatically gets selected. Switching at checkout to the Amex card allows points to apply, but then any remaining balance goes to the card as well and not from the GC balance.
