Received this laptop today. FWIW, the screen is actually pretty good (definitely not the best) but quite good for watching 1080P Youtube videos and surfing.

Performance is admirable - amazing how far i3 processors have come in the 11th generation.

HP Build quality is also not too shabby - definitely way better than the Gateway deals from Walmart. It looks a lot more expensive than it is. Most importantly, the 14" form factor is very portable and the 3 lbs weight makes it super convenient to have around the house.

Upgrade to Win 11 was a breeze and Windows automatically downloaded all drivers including BIOS updates seamlessly - so far the process has been almost Chromebook like which is a huge plus. Also, not a lot of bloatware that I can see - only HP app is the Support Assistant that is fine imo. I'm sure there are other hidden bloatware but none that I've been exposed to as yet.

I've been running a couple of resource intensive apps on it and although I do hear the fan kicking in the bacground, it hasn't gotten too hot - in fact, it's very comfortable to have in my lap without you know worrying about my future generations ;-)

Overall, I'm definitely very impressed by this little chap - definitely way better than my 15" Dell XPS that is heavy (although it is made of aluminum) and BSODs on me all the time.

Let me know if you guys have any questions for me on the specific laptop or experience using it - would be happy to answer any and all qs
HP 14" Laptop - 11th Gen Intel Core i3-1125G4 ......
This is the superior 11th gen mobile i3 with a 10000 rating at Passmark. Some number of cores and same 10000 as the latest 11th gen i5. I kid you not! .......the i5-1135G7

What the i5 has is superior graphics @ Iris Xe. About 30% better than what the i3-1125G4 has Which iirc are properly called UHD 630 Xe (no Iris)

i5 11th gen mobile and on up have the better Iris graphics...

I clicked the link for the $349.97 one, it shows for me as $299.97, which makes this a even better deal.

Hard to beat for $300, HP still puts out decent laptops.

Question: why do a lot of these type of laptops come in Windows S mode? Seems to have more than enough power to run Windows 10, but when it is pre installed with S mode it feels like it is underpowered. Same goes with many of these laptops.

how easy is it to upgrade the HD?
I've been running laptops for 10 years with 1TB HD's.

Specs look the same, one might just be an older SKU? The second one only has one rating so I'd assume that's what it is.

Edit: Second one seems to be Windows 11 on it.

wonderful price, but reminder that this CPU doesn't have Xe, if that's something user needs.

It looks like 43cl is cheaper because it comes with Windows 10 and so you have to upgrade to Windows 11 yourself (older stock). 53cl already comes with Windows 11 installed (newer stock). Basically you save $80 for doing the upgrade yourself. I couldn't find anything else. Maybe someone else will.

Rats! I'd bite on the $300 Win10 one if it was dual channel RAM. Otherwise specs are the same - including IPS.

By the way, I've read that Windows 11 ABSOLUTELY REQUIRES you log into an account... no local accounts like Windows 10. I'd go for the older model and decide on 11 later if the RAM thing didn't matter.

Can anyone tell me if either of these would be good for a kid starting to experiment with 2d animation? My 13 yo has shown interest, but idk for how long 🙂
