Friends recognize that they won't do any better at the $300 price point.

Factoring in Costco's excellent 4 yrs warranty using their Visa card; I will agree and there is a good chance that excellent warranty will be utilized. BTW, I am typing on a HP that is about 1 yr old with a sizeable chunk of the time under repair and very enthusiastic about bad mouthing them Mad

Does anyone know if it is easy to open the case to upgrade the RAM for the dq2043cl. In other HP thread is was mentioned that you have to remove the rubber feet to get to the screws.

Removing the rubber feat isn't hard. Just make sure you get all the way past the adhesive layer and pull the foot and hard adhesive strip up as one piece.

Then use a guitar pick and run it around the edge to pop the bottom off.

Would this be a decent option for someone needing a PC for web surfing and annual tax software?🙂
Easily! At home you could always plug in a 22" monitor. I would get IPS monitor same as this laptop and get with 1080p resolution same as this laptop.

Do they ever replace the computer outright? I have a HP from three years ago that develops slight screen damage. I got the screen replaced within the first year through HP, but I'd rather not go through that process again.

I don't think they have any flexibility and I am glad that my HP purchase was through Costco. As I found out that hp.com won't even allow order cancellation after 24 hrs without restocking fee.

For my 2-in-1 laptop (Envy X360 supposed to be mid-premium line), I got the MB replaced and later-on the screen rotation sensor replaced. I am still battling the screen rotation issue as it is not reliable due to poor driver support (I think..as system reboot will solve the problem for a couple of days, then issue comes back.) The improvised work around is using iRotate to manually flip screen.

Also, for reference only, the last driver update for my laptop from HP was made on May 31st. That is, there were practically no support update or fixes for 1/2 year for my laptop...
