This is the first generation. The 2.0 version is much better and homedepot has a hackable deal right now for the real large one with wheels and the medium and small for $150. When hacked you can get this box bug new version for about the same price

Thanks for the link, but what I see is the same size box v2.0 is about $48 instead of $36. Still an interesting deal for v2.0, but not work the extra price for me.

I have both. It's worth it for me. All my 1.0 boxes cracked and I'm a DYI guy. That's why they discontinued the 1.0, cheap plastic.

We must have 20 or more of the so called 1.0 version that are shared by several people and none have broken latches. These boxes have had a Limited Lifetime Warranty from day one that would and will replace a defect.
Nevertheless, I read this all the time about the 'newer version' being better and since the newer latches are certainly cheaper to manufacture, I have to wonder if DeWalt marketing did not start what seems to be parroted everywhere.

Same. I've got half a dozen of the large boxes and while I've never abused them, I haven't babied them either. I've never had one break on me and I've been using them for probably 3+ years.

And even if someone did break one, they are under warranty. Go get a new one. Too often, rumors get feet of their own. I think these are nice boxes, but we also have a load of T-Stack as well, that are the same as the Stanley. With the foam bottoms, those are what we use for most all small power tools. Especially with charger and battery, tools just stay in better shape and last longer. We have three carts we seldom use, because unless on concrete, the plastic wheels are way too small. I have thought about installing some larger pneumatic wheels, but that is a maybe winter project.
If using portable, the only ones you, as in generic you, kind of need to baby are those with the clear (Milwaukee) or amber (DeWalt) translucent lids.... they will crack if abused and even more so in cold weather. I do see those taped up on job sites, but mostly because someone stepped on them while on the floor and typically open.
Might be expired but Home Depot was doing $50 off if you buy the three combo, the large cart box(has the dolly thing) medium and small, came out to $150 before tax, only if u buy the set. Inventory is unknown. I love it.
every time I read "hackable deal" I puke in my throat just a bit. Also love the comments about gen 1 being "shiet" but yet other people have used them "en mass" without problems.
