Practically speaking, Just buy an Xbox Series S. It's better than Xbox One (less than X) and you can get it immediately at multiple places without being forced to buy a full price gamepass subscription. You can spend $100-150 to get a 3 year Gold subscription and convert to Gamepass Ultimate for $1 or $14.99.
So for $450 you'll be set for 3 years.
For a casual gamer, you will be hard pressed to tell difference between X and S graphics unless you see them side by side, which you can't because you don't have an Xbox X.
I just recently got the S for my boys, and they are extremely happy with it, and I don't have to raise my blood pressure for the next "drop".
Now if you are a hardcore gamer, and you must absolutely have the X, then you can always buy one from eBay for a markup for the immediate delivery and convenience. But if you are still waiting for the $499 price tag, can you really count yourself as a hardcore gamer? I'd say not as you would have already grabbed one in 2019 when they were available lot easily.
