Yes, but you'll have to spend many $100s of dollars to even use one of the new Alderlakes… On top of buying the chip. New mobo, new ddr5 ram… It'll be almost a $1k to get even the i5 working with components that you already have.

Plus your energy bill will go up and you'll need a room a/c to be able to survive while playing anything…

It is barely cheaper than buying a new tool from Home Depot with free shipping.

What are you talking about alder lake is like 20% faster than the best rise and chips on ddr5 for gaming specifically
There aren't any DDR5 Ryzen chips yet.

Personally, I'm disappointed that the first Intel chips with DDR5 support don't even have Xe graphics. The 5600G graphics are still much better than Intel's, even on something like DDR4 3600 CL18, which is really cheap RAM.

this price is appropriate for the performance.

the $299 12600k is much faster than the 5600g, and even the 5700g

https://www.guru3d.com/articles-p...iew,8.html

you're paying a 10% discount on the 5700g, but you're getting more than a 10% deficit in performance compared to the $299 12600k

just wait 2 months for more boards to come out.

The ryzen chips have outdated graphics, even if they have more horsepower than Intel graphics.

The ryzen chips are not future proof, lacking the AV1 hardware decoder support. Future video streaming will shift toward AV1 codec.
Currently AMD chips use lots of cpu power to play av1 videos.

Yeah I picked up at 135W power supply for the ThinkCentre, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Ahhh sh!t, you're right. Typical 65W, I was looking at "TDP Down" initially lol. Probably best not to push this little ThinkCentre laugh out loud. Thanks for the reply.
I saw some YouTube reviews saying that the fan gets loud. Not too many fan upgrade options, unless you take the top off the tiny lol.

You can also just get a video card as a decoder, when it comes down to that. This is 200 bucks and if they already have an AMD motherboard that supports it, you saving over 200-400 bucks over buying an intel board, cpu and overpriced DDR5 RAM. 10-15% ain't worth that when you can use it to get a 400+ video card and really push your gaming down the road. I believe the best thing to do is see how far these AMD chips will drop (then get it if it hits your price point) or wait to see their real competitor to Intels 12th gen, likely this spring.

Anyone with an older AM4 motherboard that got the bios update for these 5000 series CPUs and currently running a discrete video card with an older CPU - this is an excellent no brainer upgrade.

$200 to replace my current 2600X in a system (x470) that doesn't support PCI4 anyway...thank you very much!

Wasn't the 11th Gen supposed to be Intels answer to the Ryzen 5th Gen? These 2th Gen Intels should be faster by 10-18+/-%, the AMD 5 series launched Oct. 2020. nautilii forgetting that many people that are looking to upgrade, already got 400 series boards (or can find a cheap one for 50 bucks or more), they just want a cheap upgrade that will boost their current CPU, the 5600G and 5700G price now scratches that itch.

I just wish Nvidia would stop sending the OEMs all these GTX 1660 Super's and make them start using the 2060 and 3060s, since consumers never see either of them in retail. Apparently they can make those all day
