LG seems to have multiple panels in various LABELED, 82 inch size, but the reality is they have VA panels that are actually 82 inches and they have IPS panels that are actually 81.5 inches. With a single caveat that they also have a VA panel in 81.5 inch size.
The "actual" 82 inch panels are all VA, but since they market 81.5 inch panels at 82 inches, that is where the confusions lie.
As such, THIS TV model is actually 81.5 inches and it is an IPS panel. The sole 81.5 inch model that is VA is this: LG 82UN8070PU

FYI... this 82" version has a VA PANEL not reviewed by Rtings...

I suppose if everyone is viewing the TV from the center, it doesn't make sense to go with IPS.
Note: I have no intention of ever using the smart functions on either.

IPS = worse contrast for movies in dark rooms but better in a lit living room for just tv.

Not the like the sweet spot is 2 feet dead center or the image looks like potato. As such since "most" people, the ones who bought the TV and care about image quality will be sitting dead center or near the VA will the best performance.
Little 6 year kids don't need pristine viewing angles for their cartoons.

I need to buy 2 80"+ tvs soon. 1 will replace my 55" OLED B6 in the living room and the other is for my finished basement which I won't cheap out on so that will most likely be 77" OLED C1 or better.
