Grabbed this from Target on the last sale. Had a credit from a botched curbside order and got it for under $13. Great game and a good entry point for full Gloomhaven. Also, I had a card missing and the customer service from the game company was top notch.

I've been trying all morning to justify a buy 2 get one free cart from Amazon or Target. Can't find the right mix of games at the right price.

This solved my problem, happy just with this Big Grin

I'm a big fan of Splendor and 7 Wonders. Is Gloomhaven comparable to those? Watching some of the how-to-play YouTube videos for GloomHaven, my impression was that my brain would hurt a little learning this.

3.57 complexity rating on BGG.

Does anyone have personal experience on how easy/difficult it is to pickup the rules of this game for casual players?

I think you're wise to go with your gut... I love board games and want everyone to play them, but you won't benefit from playing the wrong game. This game tends to ramp up, which is nice at the beginning, but could end up being more than you can chew at later intervals. I have started playing it with my wife who plays 7 Wonders and Splendor (and not much else!) and she has not complained about the difficulty level yet. We've played the first 3 levels/scenarios. She talks about wanting to continue playing, but I wonder if it will end up being more than she can handle at game 6 or 7.

The game introduces the mechanics of the game across the first 5 scenarios, with each one building on the last. After 5 scenarios I'm still looking things up in the manual as my group doesn't play regularly. There are 25-ish scenarios to play through and you carry and level up the same character through it all. It's the most complicated board game I've tried as a casual player. As Jaws of the Lion is supposed to be Gloomhaven-Lite, I'm convinced that the full Gloomhaven game would be a bad purchase for me and likely left on a shelf collecting dust.

If you still have the 25% off single toy target circle deal, you can actually get it cheaper at target right now using the b2g1 cancel trick.

Target has for $40 b2g1. If you add 3 to cart u get each for 26.66, or same as amazon price. Add 25% off coupon takes another 6.66 off or 2.22 off on each. Then just cancel 2 after ordering.
Final price is 24.44, maybe a little less if you have redcard or other discount like b-day 5%.
