I would lean towards sony...handsdown
Too bad this uses the X1 processor instead of XR cognitive like on the X90J

This or the LG 86" nanocell 90?
I've seen both in person and can't make up my mind.
Home theater setup so all seating is in front of the tv

VRR? I know Sony finally delivered promised VRR over a year later to some of their TVs, just wondering if these come with it yet.

Better have a big living room. Mine is 13 x 17 ft and too small for my 85". And the tv too.
Hmmm - my room is 14 by 18 - and I'll be about 9 feet away - per Crutchfield, and other sources, even 7 feet away isn't too close - but this isn't from experience, so I'm not sure - you felt your eyes had to move too much, or you're moving your head a lot?

Center of the tv is about 5 ft up, on the wall. the couch in front of it is at 6.5 feet, so I'm too close. 9 ft is good.

Didn't think it would be too small. You want to go for an immersive experience in your home theater. Now if this was a living room, aesthetics may not match and it may be too big. In the home theater you want to have a movie theater 😊

True, but why not do a projector and go to 120". There was a great deal on the lg cinebeam + free Samsung sound at q90 series for $3k.

It's more about the distance between the viewing position and the TV than the room size. Our living room is about that size, and we sit about 10' from the TV. According to THX recommendations [inchcalculator.com], we should have a 90" TV. We currently have a 75", and while it's more than adequate, I'd love to go up to an 85 or 90".

I can't justify the upgrade expense, now. But if I had it to do over again, I definitely would have gotten a larger TV. #firstworldproblems
