I had a OnePlus 6T and loved it, but I hated my OnePlus 8 for 90% of owning it. And by that I mean it was the worst phone I've ever had.

After one android update that was released probably around a year ago(I honestly don't remember) the phone would randomly crash multiple times per day. It would just freeze and then I'd get a popup saying the system crashed. I had the phone replaced 3 times, same issue every time. No way to roll back to an android version without it.

It was frustrating to the point of being unusable. If you don't plan on doing something with the software, which I can't say what would even work, I would skip.
Yes this phone will randomly have the os freeze. But with a daily reset. It seems to help clear it up. It may freeze up 3 times a week
Os freezes are hard to diagnose but typically is due to some app crashing in the background or using phone resources in excess. Wipe the phone clean and only download limited apps and see if any more os freezes

So without tmobile customer you're stuck and no way to unlock...right..I want this to work on visible.

I know most of the new phones (starting Samsung S8) comes with locked bootloader and not worth your time to unlock it. Even after that not sure visible will work properly.

From the other thread (cant vouch for this)

YMMV. But I, as well as several others the last time this phone was posted, had success simply unlocking it right out of the box. I'm on AT&T. Purchased the T-mobile phone, opened it, went into the settings and carrier unlocked it. no T-mobile sim card required. Do not change anything with the phone, unbox it and unlock it. Then go mess with it afterwards

copy/pasted:

Quote from littlebro :
Unlocking is a lot easier than expected:

1. Unwrap and power on (no need to insert a sim)
2. Skip through the setup process, but connect to Wi-Fi
3. Unlock permanently under Settings - Wi-Fi & Network - SIM & Network - Network Unlock

Bootloader unlock is trickier as a token from OP is required. Most users would not need it.

Thank you for posting a good deal.
Awesome! That's 2 reports of success. trying tonight

update: AT&T user here. Appear to have been successful, didn't swap the sim over yet to check

steps
1open & connect to WIFI like stated
2 go to the unlock setting. at the first attempt, mine failed saying it tried to verify with the network and couldn't
3 go to the unlock setting again. The screen changed and now I had options of "permanent" or "temporary" network unlock. Selected permanent, rebooted, and now the option no longer exists in the menu so it appears to be unlocked successfully

If camera quality wasn't important, OnePlus wouldn't have paid $100 million to Hasslebad specifically to make their OnePlus cameras less trashy.
It's in name only for the most part, like having Leica.

Is anyone able to get the trade-in to go through? I tried to trade in an old OP 3T for $110 but on the checkout page there isn't any information in regards to the trade in. When I attempted to cancel and redo again, they stated I wouldn't be able to use the same voucher code, so I went and added the OP 8 to the card and yep, voucher no longer works. Either I cancel and redo everything and miss out on the $50 voucher or gain $110 from trade-in.

Also its been half an hour and no email confirmation. My credit card company already texted me about the transaction being charged.

Does anyone have trouble receiving the trade-in follow-up email? Or how do I start the trade-in process? I chose the trade-in option when placing the order and got an estimate but it does not say anything on my order page or email confirmation. Wondering whether it takes some time for OnePlus to process my trade-in request.

Wow my order shipped already and it was only placed a couple hours ago. I guess they really wanted to get rid of these phones quickly. At $249 plus cashback 5% cashback from chase freedom using paypal, not a bad deal at all. If I don't like the phone, i am sure i can reflip it for very little lost if any.
From one turnip-squeezer to another Wink : You forgot the extra 3% from going through "B frugal" (phonetic, in case SD still censors)

Debating picking this up to replace my 7Pro since battery is starting to go on that one.

Decisions...

How are OnePlus with Tradeins? Have an iPhone 6S lying around and they give $130 for it.
The camera is a downgrade from the 7pro according to reviews. Just get a new battery.

Having a problem with my order

After hitting purchase it went to a "pending page" No order number, no email confirmation. It said wait 5 minutes before it shows up in my order status. It never did. It does show pending on my credit card for a few hours now.

Had to contact support to get them to link the order to my email/account. Still waiting on that confirmation email but at least I have my order ID and they claim the order went through.

Are there any reputable places to get a battery?

Thanks! Unfortunately, I am unable to cancel the order now due to shipping in process. Oh well, I will just keep the old 3T phone to trade in for other new phones.
