Thermopen has a flip out design, auto-rotate display, and is more waterproof. Both are great for the price.

Why buy the thermopen if this is, even at full price, half the price? 1 sec quicker and 1F more accurate?!

For a home user, probably doesn't matter. But if you're working in a fast paced environment and probing a lot of things, I can see speed being important

I bought it for the quality. For like $5 more I'm getting a way better quality thermometer that should last longer than the last one I bought for cheap that lasted about a year, maybe.

Excellent thermometer and Thermoworks makes excellent stuff. I've used a number of budget thermometers over the years and this one is far and away the best. I own this and a Dot (monitor thermometer). If you want to spend more the Thermapen is always the #1 pick by America's Test Kitchen but the Thermopop is usually recommended as the value pick.
